I recently bought quite an expensive 9 carat gold slave bangle from
a local jewellers and as it is quite a small diameter, I literally
forced it over my right wrist. There is no way it'll come off now
without cutting through it.
For years I have seen women wearing quite fashionable bangles,
but only recently have I seen men wear them and in a way that
suggests they don't want to remove them.
Infact here in the UK, I noticed today that Gary Barlow, formerly
with Take That was wearing a very fashionable gold bangle in his
promotional photos for his new record.
For years I have been fascinated by Asian people, both men and
women who wear bangles as part of their religious beliefs, but
recently it appears bangles are being worn more widely.
Strangely enough as my bangle is most definitely seen as a
_fashion_ item, no one has mentioned or referred to it.
Anyway, as a simple survey on these newsgroups, could people
drop me their thoughts on bangles; do you like them, do you
wear them, do you wear one (or more) that you intend never to
remove, are you trying to make a statement, etc. ?
Look forward to hearing your views.(If you post a reply to
the newsgroup, could you also cc: me on your message)

Bangles can be just as masculine and attractive on a man as they can be feminine
and attractive on a woman. I do have some reservations about any jewelry that
cannot be removed. Seems to me that rather limits your options some.
I can't say I've ever worn much in the way of bangles, though I did once have an
elephant hair "adjustable" sort of bangle that I rather enjoyed, and wore quite
a bit before it wore out. I also used to wear a rather large navaho indian
silver and tourquoise cuff bracelet quite a bit when I was younger. Still have
it, though I don't wear it much any more, due to a wrist injury that changed the
fit of that bracelet on me...
Howdy Liam,
I make and wear bangles. I am wearing a single 8mm x 1mm sterling
bangle that I roller printed as I type. I also wear multiple bangles at
the same time if they are smaller. I remove all jewelry at night (except
my wedding ring). I sometimes have to slip off my bangles at work
because they get in they way when I do a lot of writing.
I've only done one special order bangle for a man who saw me at a show
and needed a larger one (good thing I have a bangle sizer). The man was
in his early 20's and Asian, though I doubt there was any religious
statement to be made. Just a guy that likes jewelry.

Hi Liam-
I sell jade bangles over the internet. I have had a number of recent
inquiries into larger diameter sizes from men. Unfortunately, at least
from Chinese suppliers that I deal with, the largest size available is
quite small for a man's hand, although quite loose on a larger woman.
The black jade, in particular is in demand. You can see this on my UK
server at the following address:

As fashion, I don't have any viewpoint either way on men (or women) wearing
bangles. Looks fine on the right person with the right fashion sense, just
like most jewelry. Snug fitting ones are nice LOOKING, but I am opposed to
things that can cause safety problems, and tight bangles without closures
could be that -- what happens if you injure your hand and your wrist swells?
Or get stung by something so your wrist swells? (Rings have to be cut off in
that case, and sometimes people lose a finger...) So I guess I think if you
want snug fitting bangle style bracelets, *I* would like to see them fashioned
in a removable way, with an open back that can be bent apart or hinges and a
closure. (This might be incentive to maintain a healthy weight, though!)
Then there is the factor of getting bored with something you wear
constantly. That might vary by personality -- I know I would never get a tattoo
because of that factor, I almost certainly would hate it in two years or so!
