Total NEWBIE here,

I've read the http://homedistiller.org/ website pretty thoroughly and all I
see on water is how much to use.

Can I use plain tap water to make my mash? Or will the chlorine have an
affect on the yeast growth?

Do I need to use another source of water, like a bottled spring water?

Thanks!

The answer depends on the alcohol toxicity level of the yeast,
batch size, target ABV, and sugar source.

Let's say you are using Alcotec 48Turbo Yeast which is rated as
20 liters of 20% in 5 days. 11 kg of table sugar will suffice.

However, Lalvin EC-1118, properly nurtured, will come close to
that in 10-14 days for about 20% of the cost.

Regardless of which you use, I would suggest you start with two
solutions - 10 liters with 4 kg (OG: 1.120) and 10 liters with
7 kg (OG: 1.210). You add the yeast to the first solution and
whenever the SG decreases by 1/3, you add 1liters f the second
solution. It may take longer, but it works and you get more
bang for buck.

Remember: If you are in the USA, it's illegal to distill alcohol.
