Hoping for some forced carbonation root beer recipes

If you make Root beer in a Corny Keg please post the recipe that you use and
let me know how it tastes. I'm hoping to make some later this week.

Thanks

Chris

Try the Sprecher's Root Beer. It is the same syrup Sprecher's uses for
their root beer which is pretty good. According to the web site, the syrup
contains a preservative so you must force carbonate it.

So far, I've just thrown a bottle of Hires extract into the keg along with a
5-pound bag of sugar and hot water and hit the gas. Tasted great, if a
little too sweet - but I found that my normal beer keg setup produced
waaaaaaay too much foam. I ended up chilling the fridge down to about 34
degrees, 8 feet of hose and just enough PSI to push it out to get it under
control. I had tried all the normal balancing calculations, all to no
avail - it took the extra-cold temperature to finally get dialed in.

I have a recipe here I am going to try next:
3 lbs orange blossom honey
2 lbs sugar
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 bottle root beer extract

Down at the bottom is how I do my rootbeer. It works with any RB extract,
but I like Zatarains the best....

Mike, where do you purchase Zatarains? I've tried several times with Rainbow
flavors (comes in the woodgrain cardboard box), but I can't make one I like.
I've seen Gnome on some websites, and considered giving that one a go, too.
Anybody else try Gnome?

Thanks

My two or three cents..... Gnome rocks! Very rich and creamy well rounded
flavor. If you prefer a slightly spicier flavor get the Zatarains but for me
it's Gnome all the way. In an unscientific taste test conducted with friends
and family Gnome was preferred 8 to 3.

I've tried just about all of the Rainbow flavors and I can honestly say I
haven't enjoyed a single one. They gave me the impression of being a step
down from generic supermarket soda. Gnome and Zatarains in comparison are
like name brand sodas.

For both brands you can go to the link below or get them from your local.

They also have some Fermentap Rootbeers listed for sale. I purchased the #2
rootbeer but haven't had a chance to make it yet as I'm still working off
the four bottles of Gnome I purchased.

B3 has it. Gnome is very good, too. B3 has their cream soda extract kit
also. IIRC, the Gnome bottles make up 10 gallons....

Have you tried the orange and cherry sodas? The sarsaparilla is pretty
good, too. In the orange, I swear you can taste the "brightness" of the
rind.

I'm trying to make an orange soda along the lines of the Henry Weinhardt's
Orange Cream (like the old orange popcycle filled with vanilla icecream).
My last try was a whole bottle of orange extract with half a bottle of the
cream soda. You could barely taste the cream. Next try will be with a
whole bottle of cream extract and a quarter bottle of orange. We'll see....

I really like the hoptech #1 it is a nice strong RB. The last time i
did it I used pure cane sugar for sweetener. Very nice.

Ok! Thanks. Maybe I'll have to get one of each. I've tried several rootbeer
recipes with the Rainbow, and they all ultimately ended up down the drain. My
kids won't drink it, and that's saying something if they won't drink it!

How hard would it be to use a quarter of a bottle? I'd like to try
making rootbeer - bottle conditioned - but don't have room for four
(or even two) cases of bottles in the fridge.

Not hard at all. A full bottle makes ten gallons and contains four fluid
ounces of extract. To make 2.5 gallons of rootbeer you would use 1 fluid
ounce of extract or approximately 2 tablespoons and 5 cups of sugar. Not all
measuring cups or spoons are exactly alike so you can fudge a little with
either the extract or sugar. For me I like a little more sugar so I make
sure the cups are generous.

BTW... A 2 liter bottle's worth is 1 1/2 tsp and a heaping cup of sugar.
Then you can force carbonate in the bottle with a carbonator cap. Very easy
for taking to the beach, picnics, etc.
