I know, I know, "it's swill." But I liked it. At any rate, I liked the
perfectly good brew sold as Watney's Red Barrel here in the States until
a few years back. I don't know what they sold in Merrie Olde, but then,
I am told that Budweiser in Europe is a respectable pilsner.

Was it an ale or a lager?

Does anyone have a recipe for something like the Watney's Red Barrel
sold in the States, or perhaps a recommendation of other beers that
might taste like it?

And BTW ... where in heck do you get EKU Kulminator Urtyp Hel in the
States? 'Cause that, you just can't make in your garage.

No, but you can brew it outdoors if you live up north.

Alex,

No idea how to brew a copy of Watney's Red Barrel. I do have some fond
memories of it, but I'd be dissapointed if my brew came out that way. THen
again, I've just got batch #1 aging in the basement..er.. I mean beer
celler.

If you find that EKU Kulminator, let me know. I know of two stores here on
Long Island (Frank's Beverage in Glen Cove and Big Z in Huntington), but
they no longer carry it. I do recall seeing some other EKU products at Big
Z, so either they don't sell very well and are old, or something's changed
with the distribution.

Happy brewing!

If you are talking about the American Budweiser, you've been lied to.
The American Budweiser is the same wherever you got (That is their
real skill; producing such a light flavored beer that tastes the same
no matter where in the world you are).

IF you are talking about the Chech Budweiser (Budweis), yes it is one
of the most respected (and sought after) Continental Pilsener (right
up there with Pilsner Urquell).

Good luck,
Dan Cole
