Can't drink in your own back yard in Virginia?

Two co-workers who live in Virginia just told me that it's against the
law for them to drink a beer in their own back yard. If true, that's
insane.

Does anybody know if this is true?

I think I also heard that it's illegal to carry ice cream in your back
pocket.

It IS illegal in VA to drink alcohol in public. But any kind of
private property (houses, restuarants, bars, etc..) are OK. As long
as you are not drinking in the street, you should be cool.

Acting like an a-hole would probably skew those results too. (grin) Of
course that applies everywhere but Texas.

(JUST KIDDING ABOUT TEXAS!!!!! IT IS A JOKE!!!!! Please don't hunt me down

It's against the law to consume alcohol in public, so keep your guests
in your back yard or inside your home." See http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/police15h.htm

One of my co-workers got cited for drinking on his own property.
Apparently he was in public view. So your back yard is okay so long as
it's private.

Very odd.

I don't know. I do know that there are dry counties in
Texas that have similar laws or portions thereof. For example,
I think it's illegal to drink alcohol in your front yard.
The back is apparently OK; dunno about the side yard(s).

It is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season in New
Jersey.

That's why I drink beer in my back yard.

In New York, when you park your car in the street at night, you're
required to leave your lights on.

Don't worry, the fact the shrub is from Texas skews the results

I'd have been in trouble in my old house- the entire yard was visible
from one street or another. Of course that's in Maryland, where the
legislators recognize the 20th century.

And as to Texas, it must be legal to drink in alleys- Just look at
King of the Hill.

I have always been tempted to try to duplicate the color of Coca-Cola
and bottle in those half liter plastic bottles it come in. You know,
for picnics in public parks, etc.

Of course thousands of drunken people infesting the extremely public parking lots of college campuses like VA Tech while
tailgating for a football game is perfectly acceptable.

Man, I hate football.

Thank you, thank you thank you!

I feel about "professional" sports the same way Pat Robertson feels
about gay marriage. I think it's harmful and perverse and I want no
part of it. I include those college sports that have become more than
students playing and competing.

One really sad thing is to see a bunch of overweight 16 year olds in
my class talking about how "we" really kicked "your" ass. Why should
they want to learn science when it's so much more fun to argue about
what a bunch of presumed adults with their IQs on their shirts did
yesterday?

Rant over. Sorry.

Been there , done that-- American Brown Ale looks very
cola-ish.

NICE! and I agree. Heck, I stopped paying for cable TV service over a
decade ago. I hate it all. I somewhat understand the sports thing, but I'd
rather be doing something else... like PLAYING sports. As far as I'm
concerned I'm glad those folks watch pro sports, who else would drink all
that crappy American Macro Brew?
