Check with your wives... if you have a KitchenAid mixer your wife may
have this grain mill attachment...

http://www.shopkitchenaid.com/product_detail.asp?T1=KTA+KGMA&.

too bad the attachment itself costs as much as a phil mil

Also, it's designed to *grind* grain, not gently
crack it. All reports I've seen indicate it'll crush
the grain much too finely for typcial brewing uses.

and based off of previous discussions, does a pretty bad job of crushing
brewing grains. It's more of a flour mill.

FWIW, the usual thread direction goes along the lines of... if you already
have one it's better than nothing, but it's a waste of money to go out
and buy one for brewing. The "real" brewing mills are *much* better suited
and are around the same price.

Not only does it cost about what you will spend on a good brewers grain
mill, you will burn up your Kitchen Aid. I believe the directions with
my Kitchen Aid said to run it no longer than five minutes at a time.

I researched one for my (not my wive's) Kitchenaid mixer. A Phil Mill
1 cost me much less and does a better job, and saves wear and tear on
my mixer.

I have made flour with them before and they work well for that. Didn't
think it would work too well for cracking grains.
