Since there was a link or two posted already, thought I would share...

https://www.roamans.com/

I've ordered a couple of times from here and been pretty happy. They have
quite a range of styles and prices (from hippy to "buisness" to dressy to
(my pick) confortable but a little unusual looking), and so far the stuff I
have gotten was actually reasonably flattering dispite my weight.

One warning:
I don't think their way (or any of hte other catalog sites' ways) of
determining my size works very well.

Now, maybe it's just me who doesn't know this because I'm new to this size
range :/... in my teenage to adult life, I've been between sizes 10 and 14
(not in that order, oddly enough....and MAN am I annoyed when I hear women
moaning that after their pregnancy they went from a 2 or 4 to a 6 or 8....I
was SO AMAZED and PROUD to be a size 10 for a while there!!) until I started
gaining weight inexplicably and just buying things with pull-strings so I
wouldn't have to know)
After sickening myself by finding that I need XL's at mainstream stores
lately, I was semi-pleasantly surprised (But annoyed at the hassle) after I
found I could SWIM in my Roaman's order of size 1X clothing (which I should
just barely make it into according to their measuring advice). I appear to
be a Roaman's "Medium" = 14 W. So, um, er, YMMV as usual.

I think they are a sister co to Lane Bryant cause each of their catalogs have
mostly the same items in them. I order from them but what really ticks me off
is they use small size models and they only sell plus size clothes. I will see
something that I think is really cute, looks good on the model but looks like
crap on me cause I'm not no where build like that model. If they used plus
sized models, at least maybe you'd see someone with your body type and could
sort of tell if it would look decent on you. I don't understand why they do
that. I know there are plenty of plus sized women who would be pretty enough
to model.

Well, I sure wouldn't say their models are plus sized, but they are not
totally anerexic like some of the other places.

I guess you still have to kind of look and see whether the item will look
good on you. I'm sure not going for the skimpy little "peasant" blowses or
sleeveless dresses, whether they look cute on the models or not..

But some of the layered dresses look like they would be pretty flattering
and distracting from, er, body size. Most of those are outside of what I'll
let myself spend of course :). I really like the "tunic" style shirts.
But then, I've been scetching long tunics with notch-necks and lace-ups at
the top and little slits on the side a lot, so I guess I was all excited to
see someone selling them (I am trying to grow out of my refusal to buy
ANYTHING that is in style whatsoever... but these styles seem different then
the ones aimed at my age-group, but yet not dowdy..)

I also got a few things from Blair's (outlet :) ) site... their "220
hickory" collection isn't as old-ladyish as my mom keeps warning me Blair is
supposed to be... but those don't seem to be particularly aimed at larger
sizes and I find stuff doesn't fit right.. if I get something that fits over
the areas I am large in, it is either way to big or just barely too tight
somewhere else, or else it is just cut in such a way that if you were either
skinny or larger in the exact perportions to a skinny person, it would look
right, but everything falls wrong on me and just looks dumb.

I think SOME of hte problem comes from where in the world things are made.
I love to get items made in India, but I find I have a hard time fitting
them a lot (often they often claim to be "one size fits all" and actually
each garment is somewhat different).
I don't know if it has to do with the way people gain weight in different
ethnic groups or what... For instance, often I will see a shirt at an art
fair or whatever that I like that I think will fit because it looks pretty
generous in the stomache/hip region, especially since often their are
side-slits below the waist, but I find I can't get it on over my shoulders
or, um, chest.
My cousin and I went to Devon (a street in Chicago where a tun of Indian and
Pakastani (as well as Jewish and other) stores are.
We looked everywhere for some nice light kurtas (sp?). I was really upset
because it seemed like I couldn't fit ANYTHING they had in light cotton.
Finally I found one I liked at a store that actually fit me. It was the
largest size they had, and they only had 2 in that size (one of which I
wouldn't wear in a million years..little mirrors are just NOT my style :) ).
I was SO embarraseed I almost didn't get it but my cousin talked me into it.
(Which I am very happy about now...I finally got my nerve up and now wear it
to work and everywhere. It is SO light and confortable!!).
Thinking back on it, both of the sales-women were WAY larger then me... I
should've asked them where they got their cloths...but I guess that will be
rude.

My mom keeps telling me to stop buying all of these Large, XL, and 1X-3X
shirts for us to print her artwork on (we sell her shirts and my jewlery),
but I insist that larger sized people should be able to buy stuff too. And
since the people who seem to like her botanical prints seem to all be
middle-aged or senior women, who tend to be more likely to fall into those
ranges, I think it is a good choice (we had run out of those sizes in a
particular print one lady decided she HAD to have and luckily some of the
larges I got ran pretty big... after a craft-fair day of selling only 3
things of mine and none of my mom's she made my mom REALLY happy by her
delight in the jack-in-the-pulpit and her remorese that all she ever sees
are rozes, rozes, rozes.... because my mom likes to draw intresting plants
and is sick of everyone else doing the same old thing too, and the
jack-in-the-pulpit picture was actually one she specially did for the poster
for the Botanical Artist's Guild show the time she was Featured Artist :) ).

Absolutely! My partner's business, Instant Attitudes, is developing a line of
T-shirts, and we carry most of them in sizes up thru at least 3X. Two of our
popular sellers in larger sizes are:

"Woman of Substance" (pink, feminine lettering on black shirt)

"You don't need to look at my chest. These aren't the breasts you're looking
for. Move along." (white text, small but readable from a polite distance, on
black shirt)

I think JCrew and Lands End both sell tops and bottoms separately, so you can
make your own two-piece, well-fitting swimsuit.

I think I'm going to be sitting out this swimming season as I'm going to be
rather large while pregnant. I'm sure that *most* people would not be
offended at seeing a pregnant lady in a one piece....but I know its time to
leave the suit behind when I can't stand to look at myself in a suit.

Maybe next year tho...

I see Sooz beat me to the Land's End recommendation, but I'll second it. One of
their big selling points on swimsuits is that they sell individually-sized
separates, so you can customize your suit to look the way *you* want it to.
With 3 or 4 different styles each of top and bottom to choose from, there's
sure to be a combination that suits you. (Pun Intentional)

Yes, they can be ordered online at http://www.instantattitudes.com. Prices
start at $15 for sizes S-XL; 2X is $17, 3X is $18, 4X (where we have it) is
$19, plus shipping. Order soon -- prices are going up by $2 across the board
sometime in the next few weeks!

See my response to Karlee upthread for website and ordering information.

Also, he asked me to mention somewhere here that we also have the "Move along"
shirt in "baby-doll" tees -- no large sizes there, I fear! -- if anyone thinks
such might be suitable for gift-giving. They'll be up on the website soon, but

comfort for a temporary image. <G>

When I was preggers (and already large) I spent a lot of time at Sesame
Place....a terrific water park in PA. They have a ride called Rambling
River....put the preggo lady in an innertube and let her float away. It's a
big long circle with a current and lots of dribbles and sprays. I would grab
my tube and go around and around while my ex took my daughter on all the
other stuff. My toes were permanently pruned that summer, but it was a great
way to beat the heat!

I like Roaman's & Lane Bryant's catalogs a lot more than the LB store, most
seasons. I have a thing for those gauze dresses....empire waist, flowing
skirts, usually nifty prints. They're comfy and great to dress up or down. I
also love their stretch denim leggings. Regular jeans don't fit me right but
they're perfect. The only thing I don't care for is their penchant for using
icky polyester-type fabrics. I'm afraid I'm an all-cotton girl for the most
part.

Avenue has some pretty designs, but I've gotta say, from looking at their
dresses, they don't have much of a sense of what looks good on a larger

And can't they figure out that most large women have more sensitive skin and

Hi,
Here's another place that has clothing for all sizes of women...
http://www.flaxdesigns.com/clothes.htm

Sadly, Jeanne Engelhart, the founder and original designer sold the company,
but the clothes are still great. (well, I love them)
The clothes can be pricey, but they last forever! You can find Flax on sale
at eBay cheaper than the stores, too. I have garments from her very early
lines that are still in great shape.
Add to this that they don't use sweatshop labor and they use natural fibers.
Yay!

Enjoy,
Deborah

I've been buying from Chadwicks for years. I didn't
know about their other "stores". Nice stuff.
A few years ago the clothing companies decided
that their sizes weren't "consistent and representative
of american women". So they fixed it by calling a 10
an 8, a 12 is now a 10, etc. Doesn't change anything,
but we all feel better about ourselves ;-)
