? B&B issue has the ginko leaves ?

I've looked thru the index's in my collection of B&B mags trying to find
the old issue that shows how to make the ginko leaf necklace. I think
it's by Diane Fitzgerald and I was positive that I had that mag.
<frustrated>

I've checked at the B&B website, but I can't remember the name of the
article and just reading the names of the articles (all the way back to
1997) doesn't give me any clue in order to find which issue it's in. I
tried narrowing it down to only necklaces & brickstich, but that didn't
help either. They have "names" for the articles that don't tell me a clue
which one might be the ginko leaf instructions.

Does anyone know which issue this is? (month/year) Or if Diane
Fitzgerald did do this stitch, is it included in any book of hers to buy
that details how to make the leaves? TIA :)

I think you could contact Diane Fitzgerald and purchase a kit/pattern
for the Ginkgo leaf necklace. I am pretty sure that there has never
been an article in any magazine that details how to do that project.

I think Karen is right - we have all seen the pictures, but that was in ads for
classes etc. (which may be what you were thinking of)
If you wanted to try something similar on your own, IIRC it is 2 or 3 drop
brick stitch w/ lots of increases.

Diane had a different project in one of the mags, she's never had the
gingko necklace up for free, she sells kits.

Well, I distinctly remember seeing a full page picture of her necklace in
the B&B mag years ago... maybe 2 or 3 years ago. But I think it was just
an article about her work now that my long term memory is kicking in. <

Hi, Lori. I am positive that I saw a full page pic in the B&B mag years
ago... but I think maybe it was just an article about her and her
beadwork, not instructions.

And I've got her book "Beading with Brick Stitch" that has many pics of
the Ginko leaves in various necklaces done by her and others. There's
instructions for increasing brick stitch so maybe I'll give one a try on
my own. Thanks!

There's a local group of the Red Hat society and it's fun to see them
walk through town on their meeting day. If you'd like to join one in

The best and worst thing about beads is that so many of them fit a tiny
shopping bag, or even my purse (once I've paid for them of course). My
husband asks me what I've spent, and I can answer "a couple of bucks."

Even if the numbers have worn off my credit card, and my purse is in flames
from an excess of spending, it's still only a very small shopping bag.
Hence, the "couple of bucks" ploy works every time. :-)

Both my dictionary and ingredients label spell it Ginkgo. Where did you
find the other spelling? Since the name is Asian is inevitable there will
be some spelling difference in transliteration. If the gingko spelling is
from an herbal site, I'd look askance at their products.

To Christina,

Well, I don't take Gingko/Ginkgo Herbs and am terrible at spelling BUT
I knew Ginko was not quite right so I looked it up. And far be it for
me to actually get up and pick up a dictionary and page thru it to look
something up! (besides, that paper version is 20 years old and weighs a
ton) I found the two spellings on the Google search engine,
www.encyclopedia.com and the Merriam /Webster dictionary site.

Seems like both spellings are acceptable and even when it is not spelled
with enough "G" s people seem to understand.

I agree absolutely. As long as its understood, I don't care how it's
spelled.

But when the correction was made I got curious. And when someone said both
spellings were used, I looked again in my seed catalogues and herbalists,
and again found only the one spelling. It makes me even more curious about
the other spelling. Thanks for the source. I'm just an anachronism, I

FWIW, my online dictionary software spells it "gingko".

I think perhaps it gets confused with "gecko", which would give rise to the
one-g spelling. <g>

My home town.

Where is Oakland?

By the way, I know exactly where Dwight is. I used to skate at Iceland
several times a week, Ward, Milvia and Dwight streets.

Also, my sister works with a law firm in SF. Heller, Ehrlich, White &
McAuliff. An administrator, not a lawyer. However her husband is a lawyer,
one son has a law degree, daughter is married to a lawyer, second son a
lawyer.

Then there's my side of the family!

Oakland and Berkeley are right next to each other. Oakland is south of
Berkeley -- if you've ever driven south from the UC campus on College Avenue,
you've probably crossed into Oakland and not even known it. We're actually
getting married in a tiny town INSIDE Oakland (very odd) called Piedmont. But
no one's heard of it.

I can tell you where Oakland and Berkeley meet. It's where the house
numbers change on San Pablo, going higher as you get deeper into both
Berkeley and Oakland.

And I know Piedmont. My aunt lived 7 blocks away in Piedmont. One of my
father's business partners lived in Peidmont, Joe Smith Mayor of Oakland.
It is a few blocks from where I grew up on Longridge Road, by Crocker High
Lands. One of my nephews lives on Trestle Glen, and a sister lives on
Lemert. My dad was born on a farm in downtown Oakland, in 1905.

Heck, the way we're going, I'm probably going to find out I bought something
from you on Telegraph.

bought a teddy bear from me at the store I managed in Berkeley. Haw!

My nephew was married at the Piedmont Community Club, or something like
that. The Christian ceremony was outside, then we went inside for a
traditional Korean ceremony, and the reception afterwards.

Haw! I finally figured it out.....I'm not real swift lately, deranged by
grief, and family weirdness over xmas. Christina refers to some tiny
peep-shaped confetti I sent her, in a teensy jeweled box, as a Rx against the
dark-winter blues. Aha! and Duh!!!

at Rose and Shattuck, years back (80s). Bears To Go. Great teddy bears,

Popping back to the original question (and I'm sorry if it already got
answered and I missed it) -- I went back through all my back issues of
B&B. I'm missing about five of 'em so I might not have what you're
looking for, but there was a picture and a short mention in issue #25,
June 1998. It's in "News & Reviews and is taking about a beading
convention being held and that Diane Fitzgerald will be there teaching a
class.

I'm sorry I couldn't find what you were looking for, but it's served as
a reminder that I'm MISSING ISSUES!!! I'd better go find them and pick
up a few beads while I'm hunting as well. :)
