Well, we're back from the art fair in Bowling Green, Ohio... It was
fun, but hot! Saw some things that I thought would be interesting to
you guys.

There were a couple of artists selling amulet bags... from $41 to
nearly $500. I thought that was interesting considering the recent
discussion here.

Also, there was someone selling peyote beaded bead (if you know what I
mean) bracelets and necklaces for $60+. She also had peyote beaded
squares (VERY cool) made into a necklace for $400+.

There was NO domestic lampwork.

I was particularly smitten with the mesh-like chains I saw at several
booths. Gorgeous. And I love the way they feel. Maybe it's time to dig
out the spool knitter and give it a go. I just want to try to make a
bracelet.

That concludes our report for today ;)

That's what I was thinking. But you gotta have one of those little hut
thingies. Which I don't. Yet. LOL!

The tents aren't that expensive. I got one on ebay for about $200 that had
four removable sides, adjustable height, sand bags to weight it down and a
carrying bag with wheels and handles (of course it's about 5 feet long!).
It works pretty good, one person can put it up in about 10 minutes.

Check your local Sam's for something called an Easy-Up. Collapsed, it's a
zipped bag about 15" square by 5' high, with wheels like a rolling suitcase.
Expanded, it's a 10x10' covered pavilion with an internal framework ideal for
clamping lamps onto. And the name isn't kidding -- I can set one up by myself
if I have to! They're *everywhere* down here; at least half the merchants at
any given event seem to be using them. They're not cheap, but neither are they
ruinously expensive -- I think ours ran just under $200.

And if you don't want to invest right now, you probably can rent them from
the party places...but would probably pay quite a bit towards purchasing
one...

I bid on one on Ebay last week - it was going cheap -- but I quit at 90 and it
went to 132... but it even had side curtains.
I think I will keep looking for one...
(I also know a few racers that have them - I could always beg to borrow one).

We have two of these - one for Beulah the Buick when she's in car shows, and
one for DH when he goes to trade shows. We bought them at Costco, and they
were ~$150 each. The second was significantly cheaper because we bought the
last one, and asked for a "floor model" discount.

A savings tip for warehouse place buyers: if you buy a lot there, be sure
to ask if you can get your membership for free. Because of DH's business,
we buy well over $10K a year at Costco. Each year at renewal time, I ask
them to waive the fee. The manager looks at my purchasing history, grins,
and punches a few keys. Voila'

Although I've mentioned this before, Costco is probably the least expensive
place I've found for Ott-Lights. The vanilla model is $29 at my local
Costco, which is half of what it costs everywhere else. If you haven't
tried one of these, do so -- it is amazing for easing eyestrain.

I love them! I haven't done any since my brother passed away. We always did
them together. My son is getting old enough now to help me out. I wish I had
the inventory and the money to do the Festival Acadian the 21st.
