This is Part 3 of the BEAD READER. This FAQ on books, magazines, videos and
craft books mail order sources related to beads is created and maintained
by Anita Li Reinehr for the newsgroup rec.crafts.beads. All prices quoted
are estimates in U.S. dollars. Actual price may vary. A lot of the
titles and information are obtained from ads & reviews in Ornament, Bead &
Button and Lapidary Journal and from catalogs. Please send all updates,
corrections and additions to 'a...@albemarle.aero.org'. Suggestions on
organization of the FAQ are also welcomed.
The FAQ is organized into the following sections:
1. BOOKS (PART 1 A-B, PART 2 C-K, PART 3 L-Z)
2. MAGAZINES (PART 4)
3. VIDEOS (PART 4)
4. BUSINESS (PART 4)
5. CRAFT BOOKS/VIDEOS MAIL ORDER CATALOGS (PART 4)
6. OTHERS (not directly on beads, but can be used as reference) (PART 5)
Currently, all listings in each section is done by alphabetical
order according to the title. If there are expressed desires to
have the BOOKS section broken into categories by subject, I need
input on subject headings. Also, to help make title search a
little easier in the book section, XXXXXX (where X is the alphabet)
is used to mark the beginning of a new alphabet.

Gerald B. Fenstermaker
"The 68 beads in this chart of Mississippi are from the locale of the
once main town of Chickasaw in the Pontotoo Co. This town served as a
winter headquarters for a number of DeSoto's men in 1540. It is not
possible to place a 16th century date on the beads, however, the
characteristics of the beads would suggest a very early time period."

Review: Carol Berry was interviewed in the last year for an article in Bead
and Button, and her work has also appeared in Ornament magazine. If you
ordered the catalog for the 1995 Embellishment conference, one of Carol's
beaded bags was on the front cover. This book grew out of Carol's popular
classes on beaded embroidery. It covers the basic materials and techniques
for beaded embroidery, and includes instructions for a sampler to explore the
different stitches as well as a pattern and full instructions for a small
beaded pouch. More importantly, this is a book on exploring yourself through
beaded embroidery. A quote from the book "I think that it"s possible that the
beadwork itself contains energy, since sewing the beads on takes
concentration and committment and time, and that we sense this energy in the
beadwork, and so a beaded object seems to have power within it. There's also
something about the pocket or pouch form itself. It is little and precious,
and displays beauty while keeping tis contents hidden and safe."
