There is an as yet unidentified person who has been waging a private war
against a number of websites that they don't like. In some cases, the websites
involved may, in fact, appear to be of a questionable nature in one respect or
another, but in some cases this is clearly just a vindictive smear campaign.

These are the domains that have recently been seen in the these spams:

-- cardercrew.com
-- shadowcrew.com
-- darkprofits.com
-- american-novelty.com
-- fake-id.org

The typical spam involving these sites will claim either that the site is
selling highly illegal items or services, or that the site has received an
order for and is charging the recipient's unnamed credit card for some highly
objectionable purchase, typically child porn materials. These are, in every
instance, fabrications; there is no charge involved (if one is mentioned), and
the entire purpose of the spam is to harass the owners of the websites named.
They should be treated exactly the same as any other spam, with the exception
that there is no point in reporting the spam to the services hosting the named
sites. It is not known if there is an active law enforcement investigation
aimed at locating and stopping the sender of the spams, but if there were, it
would not be a matter of public record until and unless the spammer was caught.
It is unwise to consider a lack of information as an indication that there is
nothing being done.

Celine (who found one of these in the inbox today and nearly freaked out, until
asking my partner about it)
