Award-winning wildlife artist Joan Pain first became fascinated with
animals as a child growing up on a Saskatchewan farm and the
inspiration for her artwork has always been rooted in those early
years.

To prepare for each new painting, Joan does extensive research,
observing and photographing her subjects, sometimes for many months
before she actually begins work. Her unique style is achieved through
an intricate process which takes approximately 400 hours to complete.
Several layers of opaque watercolor paint are applied with an
airbrush. A fine brush is then used to create the meticulous detail
that goes into each one of Joan's paintings. The end result is a vivid
portrait that allows the viewer to share the artist's sense of
