Scottish Contemporary Art Sale at Phillips Glasgow on September 15th.

A noticeable trend at Phillips over the past few years has been the
emergence of a new generation of collectors. By opting to sell pictures
they have inherited which hold no appeal for them, or simply by starting
from scratch, they choose to invest in works by contemporary Scottish
artists.
What has accounted for this shift in taste? Phillips believe Scottish Art
has not enjoyed such a high international profile since the era of `The
Glasgow Boys at the end of the last century, and this critical and
commercial success has encouraged new buyers onto the market. Certainly, it
has been a pleasure to witness people who perhaps had not previously
considered buying contemporary art at auction, attending views and sales and
becoming enthusiastic and knowledgeable collectors.
Phillips have actively promoted and supported this trend by being the only
international firm of auctioneers to hold specialist sales of Scottish
Contemporary Art. With interest in previous sales from the United States,
Canada, France, Holland, Germany and Italy, as well as from all over
Britain, the indications are that this market is more than a short term
phenomenon.
Phillips forthcoming sale on 15th September - the twelfth of its kind - has
much to interest both the seasoned collector and the prospective new buyer,
including good examples of work by John Bellany, Stephen Conroy, Peter
Howson, John Byrne, Alexander Goudie and many others, with estimates ranging
from 50 to 6000.

VENDORS: Further entries are invited for our sale of Scottish Contemporary
Art and Prints with a closing date of - Friday 11th August.

BUYERS: If you are interested in buying, then catalogues will be available
at an approximate cost of six pounds, plus two pounds p & p.
