The United States issued stamps of Santa waving from a chimney in 1991.
Scott shows two different numbers for this stamp. #2580 and #2581. My
Harris Liberty album has two places for this stamp, and call them type 1
and type 2. I've tried searching old Linn's at the library, but can't find
any information on this.

Can someone tell me the difference in these two stamps? I have several
copies of the stamp, but they all look identical to me. What am I looking for?

Thanks in advance.
Jim

I don't have a catalog handy to look at, but if I remember correctly, the
difference is in the design of the chimney brick. I believe its in the
top 2 rows of the chimney where you'll see the difference.

I'll check today and send a follow-up if I'm in err.

Christmas Santa, 2580,2581. I'll try doing this from memory. The stamp
in question is a booklet stamp of Santa waving from a chimney. The error
is that one of the stamps in the pane of 4 is missing a verticle mortor
seam between two of the bricks on the left side of the chimney (the
viewer' left), I think on the top row of bricks, at the back of the
chimney, i.e. toward the edge of the picture. If I can remember to do so,
I'll take a look tonight and see if I need to be more descriptive.

According to the footnote in the Scott catalog,"the extreme left brick in
top row of chimney is missing from type II"
Hope this helps.....Jerry

After checking the Brookman catalog, they define the type II as the
stamp missing the left most brick on the top row.

I was nearly correct. In the booklet pane of 4, the two end stamps (those
not connected to the selvage) are different from the other two. The
differences are in the vertical morter space on the top row of bricks as I
stated.

WOW! Thanks for all the help. It's nice to see others that are willing to
help out when in need. Of course, we all love stamps and want to help each
other any way we can.... right?

Jim - I believe that on one design there are more partial bricks showing on the
left side of the stamp where the design meets the margin.
