Prompted by a recent discussion on this board about gastronomy and
Luxembourg hat-makers, I have uploaded a small webpage about Mr. Fruit-Face,
aka Giuseppe Arcimboldi, who was a court painter to the Habsburgs (Emperor
Rudolph II), and ended his days as Count Palatine. Although forgotten after
his death, his name has been revived by the naming of the rebuilt Scala
Opera in Milan as Teatro degli Arcimboldi.

Enjoy :-)

Mette:
This painting is hilarious. He was hundreds
of years ahead of his time.

I downloaded a large scan of the Librarian
from the castle website.

I only regret that I didn't spend some
time there when I was in Stockholm.

i also found it interesting that his paintings
led the way to the painting of still-life,
which had never been done before.

Chapeau to Mr Fruit Face.

Regards
Blair

I am glad you have liked both the page and The Librarian. It is a wonderful
painting. If you "can't live without it", here is an online opportunity to
order a hand-painted reproduction

What a pity. Here is a nice image of "The Librarian"s home, Sweden 1962,
Scott No. 614.

Needless to say who engraved this stamp ;-)

Here, here.
I was amazed these were created so long ago,
It was sort of deja vue for me, here in WA.
We have had an animated Veggie face here for the past few years
promoting healthy eating, we are following America in the trend
of growing obesity in young children.
