might be faster?

In Springfield, we got the Philadelphia issue cents with the Old State
Capitol (Professional Life) in commercial wrappers/rolls at face
value. Not the U.S. Mint decorative paper rolls. A local branch of
J.P. Morgan Chase handled the distribution at the ceremony.
You could get six rolls (three dollars worth) each trip through line.
I went through four times and sold six of my rolls to the scalpers (at
an excellent price), netting 18 rolls. Mea culpa, mea culpa. If I
had been super serious about it, I know I could have gotten quite a
few more. People who had babes-in-arms and small children with them
could buy six rolls for the kid as well.
Of course, I was in line(s) from 6 AM until slightly after noon. By
arriving at that early hour, I was (barely) among the first 100 people
at that ceremony to get coins.

I will be at the formal ceremony at 10am, taking notes and pictures,
get some rolls there,
then high-tailing it to the offices in NW which I where I went for the
last roll exchange, to get more.
Hopefully the lines will be lighter there, especially with a
forecasted 50% chance of rain.
After that's all said and done, I plan on heading to the Smithsonian
American History
museum and getting some pictures and taking more notes on the coin
exhibit therein
(better pics than the crummy camphone images I got on my last trip
there).

The Coin World that just hit my mailbox provides details on the event. At
press time, though, the Mint hadn't announced whether purchases would be
available at the two off-ceremony sites (Union Station and the Mint
offices), what the buy limits would be, or even which bank would handle the
distribution. Presumably they'll be Philadelphia circulation strikes.

You might want to confirm that they will be selling rolls at the
off-ceremony sites. It would be inconsistent and kind of dumb for them not
to, but the latest CW article on it said that the Mint hadn't announced
anything about those sales yet.

Only about 15 miles away from me in (ugh!) Wash DC. Forecast- cold, rainy,
windy. Maybe if they came and picked me up...............or if I were 30
years younger and more ambitious. I'm satisfied to have received one
Lincoln & Chronicles set and sold it on eBay for 200% profit which I'm
planning to put toward a REAL collectible coin. Don't know what yet.

Lessee. $6 in gas, $5-8 dollars parking, wait in line............ all for
maybe six penny rolls to sell on eBay at $3 each. That's about a break even
deal for me investment-wise. Collector-wise, it would be less stressful to
pay a local dealer or collector the $3-$5 for a roll, unless one happens to
live or work near Union Station or the Mint sales area. But then I guess
there's the fun of being at the event itself.

Actually, by the time I'm writing this, anybody who wants to go ought
to be on the way there - but I would point out Bruce, that maybe you
could score more than just six rolls - by making more than one trip
through line (that was allowed at all three previous events, I
believe), by taking friends or family with you, or by visiting more
than one of the sites.
You also might cut transportation costs by taking the Metro.

For me, it's a five mile drive to the Springfield Metro station, $5 to park
in their lot, another $7 or so for the round trip fare. As long as I have
to drive five miles, I might as well drive the additional ten miles into DC.
No real transportation cost savings there. I read where some folks do hit
the line several times. Once would be too much for me (envisioning those
flu shot lines). Bringing along a set of triplets in a stroller would be
the better idea. It will be interesting to see if and how the local TV or
Wash Post covers the event. I haven't seen any mention so far.

13th distribution. But then they took notice and responded pretty
well.
But there's never been this kind of coin distribution in such a major
urban area before. Could there be surprises???
