How To Buy Silver ?

Many say its better to buy silver than gold at this time as gold might
be over bought. Since I am not a coin collector and I am only wishing
to buy silver to hold against the falling paper dollar. What would be
the best way to buy silver ? the silver quarters from the 60's ? what
about the silver eagle ? is this the same as the gold eagle only in
silver ? Like I said I am only looking to buy silver to hold against
the falling paper dollar not for collecting. Wondering what form of
silver would be the best bang for the paper buck ?

Silver Eagles aren't a bad investment, only problem is there are
127,965,837 folks thinking along the same lines as you, resulting in a
major Eagle shortage.
The mint has restricted their distribution, and most, if not all, major on-
line dealers have long ago depleted their inventory.
The mint doles them out in spurts, and once in a while some of these
dealers will put some up on their web site, they typically sell out 50,000
or so within a day - And this is $5 or so over spot, and minimum orders of
500.
Some dealers will gladly take your money, and maybe neglect to mention that
they don't actually have any in stock. You might wait weeks or months for
your order - If society crumbles in the mean time, you are SOL.
Other reputable dealers, like this guy http://www.coloradogold.com/, will
flat out tell you there is no silver to be had, and are not taking any
orders, period.
His price of $13.57 per eagle is the lowest around, but obviously does no
good when you can't get them.
Go to a small, local dealer and you can probably expect to pay $18-$25 per
eagle, as we speak ,,, Which won't be bad, if they go for $75 6 months from
now, but would be terrible if they dive to $10.
So all in all, I'd be hard pressed to advise silver eagles right now, and
if I did, you would not likely be able to find any.
Maple leafs are not a bad investment, tend to be slightly cheaper than
eagles, of course they are also in short supply.

They have less than 1,000 as I write this, and will almost certainly be
sold out before you even read this [11:35 pm EST].
Only thing to do is check places like that, multiple times daily, and make
a move when they have stock in hand.
Generic rounds might be a decent option, typically $2-3 over spot, no
drastic shortages.

* You get the same amount of silver for less $
* Readily available [as we speak]
Cons
* If the shit hits the fan, is the guy you are trying to trade a generic
silver round for a loaf of bread going to believe it is really silver ?
No such possible doubt with silver eagles
* Are you really sure its pure silver ? Buy only from reputable sources
[that would rule out a bulk ebay purchase from some guy in Sri Lanka
selling them for $5 a pop]
* Generally lackluster, unappealing designs, though some look pretty spiffy

Hard to beat pre-1965 US dimes, quarters and halves. which are 90%
silver.
Low premium and practical sizes. Three dimes still buy a gallon of
gas, just like in 1964!

However, he states you must buy at least 500 oz of silver. Is there
any place where you can buy lesser ammounts (other than ebay)??
