Collectors Universe has decided to discontinue the twice-annual
Santa Clara Coin Stamp and Collectibles Expo after the show to
be held next weekend.

po-ends-after-november-show/

I've been setting up at the show since Rudy Christians (NOT
"Christianson" as stated in the press release) founded it as a two-day /
$99 bourse fee show back in the 1980's. He expanded it considerably
(taking up three of the four Santa Clara Convention Center halls at one
time) and included significant stamp and sportscard sections.

Rudy sold it to Ron Gillio when he became ill, Ron later sold it to
Collectors Universe, and it has been going downhill for the past few
years. This last show, which conflicts with the Whitman Baltimore show,
looks to be about half the size of previous shows according to the
convention program layout.

RIP, Santa Clara ... (all Northern California collectors are of course
encouraged to show up and bid the show a fond farewell ... I'll be
sharing a booth with Mark Clark at table 829).

It's sad that PCGS would buy the show only to shut it down. When show
organizers complain about "competing dates" it really
means that THAT show is not competing to offer sellers and attendees
the clearly best promotion ,best value, and best experience.
