I bought a bunch of "junk" 90% silver this afternoon, and have an appointment
with a local Noomismatic Emporium on Tuesday afternoon to "off" the lot
since I generally don't deal in such merchandise. It ustabin that Mercury
dimes and Walking Liberty half dollers commanded a bit of a premium over
the run-of-the-mill 90% (Roosies, Warshington quaters, Franklin halves
and 1964 Kennedy halves), but that premium seems to have disappeared
with the recent run-up in silver spot prices ...
ANYWAY, some of the silver I bought SHOULD command a little premium
over "junk", so I'm offering it here on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis
(sorry to all you East Coasters that won't read this until tomorrow morning,
but I posted it as early as I could ...).
For the record, the Certified Coin Exchange reports that silver spot closed
at $8.11 per ounce today, that the highest "bid" for $1000 bags was $5562.94
and that the lowest "ask" for $1000 bags was $5752.94, i. e., over 5.5x face
"bid" and over 5.7x face "ask".
LOT 1: Mercury Dimes -- $29.00 face value (290 coins), unsearched BY ME,
but undoubtedly searched by the previous owner. Looks to be a
typical Merc lot, with most of the coins VG/F in the 1940's, some
earlier 20's/30's in G/VG and probably some 10's in AG/G. 5.5x
face would be $159.50, 6x face would be $174.00. I'll split the
difference at NET $167 plus $5 Priority Mail postage/insurance.
LOT 2: Washington Quarters partial set -- 71 different 1934 - 1964.
There are only 83 different in the 1932 - 1964 set, so this is
over 85% complete from the get-go (missing the 1932 PDS, some
other dates in the 1930's and the 1955-D), generally in Good or
better for the early dates, Fine or better for the later ones.
$17.75 face, or $97.625 at 5.5x face and $106.50 at 6x face.
Given the early dates this lot should Shirley be worth $110 plus
$5 Priority Mail postage/insurance.
LOT 3: Walking Liberty Halves --$14 face value (28 coins), SEARCHED by me
(pulled out some dates in the 40's that a local collector is hoarding
and pays me a premium for ...). Mostly in the 1940's, mostly "D"
and "S" mints, a few low-grade early dates (including a partial-date
1919-D that I should probably pull, but won't ...). $77 at 5.5x
face, $84 at 6x face, again I'll split the difference at $80 plus
$5 Priority Mail postage/insurance.
Not 90%, but these came with the same deal, so I'll offer them here too...
LOT 4: A matted and framed "Bison" note 1901 $10 Legal Tender:
http://members.sparedollar.com/kenbarr/framedbison.jpg
The note is a solid Good - Very Good, with a minor margin tear
on the right side. Current Greensheet "bid" is $350 in Very Good,
so this should be a good buy at $280 including Priority Mail postage
and insurance. It already has the mounting hardware and wire
installed on the back, so it's ready to mount on any wall which has
a nail in it ...
LOT 5: Eisenhower Dollars complete proof set in Capitol Plastics frame --
includes the 1990 Eisenhower Memorial commemorative dollar,
1971S 40% silver proof, 1972S 40% silver proof, 1973S clad
proof, 1973S 40% silver proof, 1974S clad proof, 1974S 40%
silver proof, 1976S Ty 1 clad proof, 1976S Ty 2 clad proof,
1976S 40% silver proof, 1977S clad proof and 1978S clad proof.
http://members.sparedollar.com/kenbarr/ikedollarset.jpg
Greysheet "bid" (wholesale) for the individual coins totals $98,
and I suspect that the Capitol Plastics holder would run another
$20 - $25 or so. NET $115 including Priority Mail postage/insurance.

Hi Ken,
I have a complete circulated set of Washinton quarters, but a few of mine
are AG at best. This looks like a good way to possibly upgrade them, and
still have some silver to hold on to and see what happens. So, I'll take
your Lot #2.
I'll drop you a private note in a moment, but wanted to post here for the
benefit of any others who might have an interest in these quarters.
