I just heard that the big Long Beach coin show is moving to Las Vegas. Has
anyone else heard this? Is this a one time thing to sort of test the waters
or a permanent move?

I would think that many of the regulars that attend the show in California
might not be to happy about this.

It had better not move. I look forward to my traditional 3x a year visit from Orange County, CA
to Long Beach. In any case, when is this move supposed to take place?

No, the Long Beach Coin & Collectibles Expo (not to be confused with any
other "Long Beach show" is NOT, repeat, NOT moving to Las Vegas.
It has a happy, productive home in the Long Beach, California Convention and
Recreation Center, 100 S. Pine Ave, three times a year. (Next show, February
11 - 14).
The owners of the Long Beach Expo have been looking into the possibility of
setting up a different, completely separate show in Las Vegas; however, there
have been construction delays at the new hotel where the show was planned to be
held. So, at this point, no definite date has been established for the LV
show.

Yes, a big show in Las Vegas! Another reason to go to Vegas, and the
opportunity to spend money on my two favorite activies!!

I wonder about the wisdom of having a
big show in Las Vegas when you have the
lure of the gambling houses pulling
people away from the brouse floor.
Maybe they could have a Las Vegas style
music show at the brouse to draw people in.

The reason to have a big show in Las Vegas? Because many dealers want the
opportunity to go there -- and the fact that there's money (disposable income)
in that town.
A major Vegas show, with ammentities for dealers and collectors - and in a
delux facility -- would have an excellent chance of becoming a successful
annual event.

The LVNS and the Joe/Sally Floto shows were usually quite well-run,
well-attended and successful. The Highfill "Silver Dollar Convention"
shows received somewhat more of a mixed review if I remeber a "Coin
World" "Letters to the Editor" go-round a year or so ago, but I never
attended one myself, so cannot offer an eyewitness opinion ...

FWIW, LV is turning into somewhat of a "retirement community" for those
Californians unwilling or unable to make it as far as the Phoenix/
Scottsdale/Sun City, AZ area. I know quite a few SoCal numismatists
who now live in/near LV.

The topless showgirls would no doubt draw them in all right!
