Should be Slovakia rather than Slovenia.

Correcting spelling errors on Usenet is considered bad form so "sigh"
back to you to.

Good grief.

Spelling error? I can see confusing the spelling of Slovenia and
Slavonia, but Slovakia?

My apologies. It's a pet peeve.

All I know is that Slovakians are my peeps. When some of my
great-great-grandparents came to America to work in the glorious coal
mines, their last name was Americanized to Harvestine.

Do you know the original name? Just wondering...

I only have one ancestor who came to America before WWII, and that was
my great-uncle who worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. That's
where he died and is buried, but we were never able to determine just
where.

The US Census records spell the original family name a few different
ways, and they also often used unintelligible script handwriting to
boot, so it's pretty confusing. Let me take a look at the genealogical
records I have and get back to you.

A lot of people would not know the difference.
