Hello

I wonder if the beer bottles are glass or plastic? They are
plastic at the Arizona Diamondbacks game.

Maybe they think Nick Swisher and Melky Cabrera don't
make enough money? I wonder if the coin throwers are
American?

Citizens Bank Park installs additional security after coin tossing incident
in World Series Game 3

BY Mark Feinsand
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Monday, November 2nd 2009, 4:00 AM

PHILADELPHIA - The fans at Citizens Bank Park better
be more careful with their money from now on.

Additional security was installed in the outfield for
Sunday night's Game 4 after fans spent the early
innings of Game 3 on Saturday throwing coins at
Yankees outfielders Nick Swisher and Melky Cabrera.

Bonnie Clark, the Phillies' vice president of
communications, said in an e-mail message Sunday
that the Phillies were advised by umpires and
Yankees security during Game 3 that fans were
throwing coins at the outfielders.

"We alerted our security people and directed more
resources to that area Sunday night after learning
of the matter and we will do the same tonight,"
Clark wrote.

Swisher brushed away the topic after Saturday's
game, satisfied that the Bombers' 8-5 win was the
best revenge against the Philadelphia fans.

"They back their team," Swisher said. "It's a
hostile crowd, but you know the territory coming
in. You've heard the stories. I'm glad we got some
runs and were able to take them out of it, because
that's their 10th player."

Swisher and Cabrera did exact some revenge on
those fans, teasing by faking tosses into the
stands, then turning and running in toward the
dugout after the final outs of innings.

"We're not messing with them, just having some
fun," Swisher said. "There's no malicious intent
to any of that; you just get caught up in the
moment. You hear them talking so many bad things
about them, so when you get a chance, you want
to get them back. That's the only way you can."

Joe Girardi said he was concerned about the safety
of his players, but hoped the additional
security measures would remove any danger for his
outfielders.

"That will really hurt; it's one thing to throw a
paper airplane, but things like coins or bottles
can be dangerous," Girardi said. "It's not funny.
We have addressed it."

There were no major incidents reported during
Sunday night's Game 4, which the Yankees won,
7-4, to move within a victory of winning the
World Series.

"You always want to take the crowd out of it on
the road, no matter where we go," Girardi said.
"Still, you've got to shut down the other team.
That's the most important thing."

Reminds me of the first time Johnny Damon returned to Fenway Park in
pinstripes. Fans in the 'Monster Seats' were throwing dollar bills at
him. For those who don't know, Damon said he would always play for the
Red Sox, but when the Yankees offered him a lot more money, he jumped
ship. A far cry from the reception that Trot Nixon, Kevin Millar and
Nomar Garciaparra received, where they all got standing ovations. They
were traded away, and didn't leave for more money.

No beer sales in the stands, as I recall, and isn't there a 2-cup limit per
order, too? Last time I was there, a couple years ago, they carded you,
regardless of how old you were. I loved that.

Why should a player give a shit about the team?
They cut and trade players all the time without a care for the player's needs or
desires.
Damon made the smart choice and took the money.
The rest is just the typical whining of the average BoSux fan, who just hates
that the Yankees are the better organization.

Yep...2 beer limit and EVERYBODY gets carded, even if 100 years old.

In response to Red Sox joke, there are lots of better ones out there,

A: You can buy one at Yankee Stadium in October.

No, Red Sox fans hate the arrogance and "we deserve it" attitude of
Yankees players and fans.

Not every player and not every fan is like this as I know quite a few
Yankees fans who are otherwise perfectly normal people.

Ain't nuffin' like a Red Sox/Yankees baseball game. Bitter rivalry at
its best, and its good for baseball too. It goes on in my family too,
with my sister's family being just as much die-hard Yankees fans as I

a game, but that's what makes it fun.

I just don't like any team that feels they "deserve" to win the

Nope. The arrogance of both - although much more the fans than the
players - was legendary and common knowledge back when Mantle was in his
prime and Yogi was cracking the quip from behind the plate. You just didn't
notice it, any more than a fish is aware that he's surrounded by water.
This wasn't just media spin. I got it (the super-superiority of the Yanks
and the relative inferiority of my home team) rubbed in my face whenever I
tried to talk baseball while visiting relatives there. (Although to be
fair, half my relatives there were rabid Yankee-haters - probably for the
very reasons being noted here.)

Looking back, I remember seeing both DiMaggio's play, Joe on the Yanks and
Dom on the Sox. Although we were mostly Sox fans in RI, kids admired the
famous Yankee players as much as the famous Sox players. I recall more awe
than animosity among kids in RI toward the Yankees, even though our two
teams always competed against each other each year. Maybe some adults were
more emotional, but still there was none of the "Sox/Yanks Suck" stuff from
either age group. Of course the "suck" word hadn't evolved yet into today's
usage. But still.

Those of us in New England also had to put up with the NY football Giants as
our "home" team when NFL games began to be televised, because we had no team
of our own at the time. We seemed to accept that and actually rooted for
the Giants (by default). The horror of it all in retrospect!!

I grew up just outside New Haven CT. When the Giants were without a
stadium in which to play, the home games were played at Yale Bowl,
about 7 miles from my home. Traffic was at a virtual standstill
because of all the NJ and NY cars that felt they HAD to go through the
yellow light, be bumper to bumper with the car in front of them, and
block the side streets.
I also remember all the trash on the side of the road after the
weekend. Can't understand why my brother-in-law likes the Giants. Oh
yeah, now I remember, he lived on the other side of New Haven, didn't
get involved with the traffic mess! 8-)

Back then as I experienced it, it was pretty much a variant of the
self-centered New Yorker attitude that is parodied in those maps of the U.S.
where the N.Y.C. area shows on the map as occupying almost half the total
area of the U.S., and the farther you get from the Big Apple, the smaller
everything else is on the map. It's an apt visual metaphor for the New York
State of Mind.

Vagrant etymological thought: Back in the Sixties, we used "sucks" and
"blows" but with full consciousness of the vulgarity of those terms. So we
only used them to be really emphatic. Nowadays they're pretty much accepted
as mild invectives equivalent to and no more offensive than "stinks".
Which, IMO, really sucks even if it is part of the unavoidable morphing of
any language toward the vulgate.

Perhaps the alleged level of braggadocio from NY fans is in response to the
invective hurled (esp. by BoSox fans) against them whenever the Yankees win it
all.
When the Yanks win it all, the Yankee haters go ballistic.
When the BoSox won it all, their fans were every bit as obnoxious as you seem to
think Yankees fans are.
By all reasonable standards, the Yankees have been the best team in the American
league since it's inception.
And that just galls Red Sox Nation, a nation of sore losers...

Whenever the Red Sox have won anything, their fans didn't gloat that their
rivals "suck". The Sox haven't won much in modern times, so when they do
their fans are more appreciative for something unexpected. Yankees fans seem
to think they always deserve to be crowned the best, simply because they're
"New York" but more likely because the team owner has spent billions during
recent years. One win out of eight tries to show for those billions. Now
if they don't repeat next year, their loyal "fans" and local press will
crucify them like they always do in lean times. I have found it
enlightening to listen to the whining on "The Fan" sports radio station in
NY while driving the east coast 95 corridor to RI during the past few
baseball seasons.

That's opinion, not fact.
Your entire line of argument has been based on unbacked assertion.
FACT: The Yankees are the most succesful baseball organization in MLB history.
FACT: Boston didn't win a World Series for 86 (!) years, whereas in that same
time period the Yankees won 26.
ASSUMPTION: Boston fans are jealous of the Yankees success.
