Pas de quoi. Dommage que tu m'as manqu, mais c'est la guerre, il m'a fallu
rentrer jeudi soir.
Tu as achet quelquechose?
cher!!!
Merci encore une fois.

Ya know, it's annoying enough that you folks won't follow etiquette by
changing the subject line when you hijack interesting threads with personal
chit-chat, but to use the newsgroup for a personal exchange in a foreign
language is just down right rude.
Steve
Baissez-moi.
oly
Ya know, Steve, if it bothers you that much, just killfile me and be done
with it. You certainly won't be the first or the last to do so, but I'm
going to say what I want to say, however I want to say it, and to whom I
want to say it. I open your posts, I get what I get, you open my posts, you
get what you get. Welcome to Usenet.
Oly and I speak English most of the time. Drop by and talk coins with us
sometime, willya?
I'll even post a translation of the conversation (which was about coins) if
you ask nicely.
James
Actually, you spelled that with one too many esses. And I'm not sure you'd
enjoy that encounter, given what you've written here in the past. 8>)
James the Proofreader
Baissez-moi.
oly
Must be colloquial; I'll speak more frankly. You're a pretender.
Steve
Hey, NO DOUBT, I'm very badly educated. Mon viewux Jaggers could
correct my verb tenses all day long (my verb usage is just
pathetic).
But at least I aspire to be better educated (even at age 50), unlike
some unspeakable unmentionables.
I know what Larousse says about "baiser", but I've also heard it used
as an "in-between".
oly
James, there is a reason for changing the subject line when in fact the
subject has changed. Though bytes are now plentiful, time isn't. It's
difficult to know that a thread has gone off track if the subject line
hasn't changed. You are Oly are the worst offenders. Now it seems you want
to use the newsgroup as your personal email service and tout French skills
to boot. Not cool.
Steve
When we use "PING" you should know that the subject matter is going to
be fairly person-specific. If that bothers you, don't hit the link.
FWIW, the information in this thread is entirely "numismatic" until
you bumped in, Steverino, mon cher monsieur le something-something-
tard.
Your definition of "Coolness" has nothing to do with anything.
If you don't have time to sift through some chaff, you 're not gonna
find any wheat.
oly
Eh? The thread started just a few hours ago by oly entitled "PING: Monsieur
Jaggers" did not go off track until you renamed it and took it off track.
It was about coins and you changed it to express your beef, which, by your
apparent standards *you* should have done in private email. Yours was the
fourth post in the thread, and you the third and only other participant, so
what's this "worst offenders" business all of a sudden? You obviously must
have sat there through all those other conversations in the past and said
nothing, so what's the deal with this one? French is a communications tool,
just as is English. Its use does not constitute "touting" French skills any
more than the use of English "touts" a person's English skills.
James
Ils sont un espece d'idiot, non?
FWIW, St. Louis (St, Charles) (MSNS) was O.K., the crowd was no more
or (marginally) no less than what I expected. Lots of Boy Scouts and
also young girls were there for the midday youth program. Dealers in
nineteenth century U.S. coins were (cautiously) buying. There was a
lot (as in "A LOT") of average to borderline nice Seated coinage on
the floor.
oly
Ils sont fous, ces Romains!
I now wish I had stayed over to attend part of a second day, but foolishly
cancelled my reservation to save a few bucks. I spent way too much time
talking to guys about coins and didn't really see everything. I guess I was
lucky to get what I got. There are always a few dealers that I concentrate
on, and if I have time, canvass the rest.
James
It was a good show; the hotel (Embassy Suites) is quite good for the
extras of drinkies and breakfast. Based upon prior experience, the
rooms are quite comfortable and spacious. Free parking is a plus
too.
But they aren't giving anything away - I can understand why someone
would want to get back home and avoid the extra expense. Gasoline is
cheaper than it was last year!!!
I didn't overstay either, this time.
I hope that this site works out for the STNA and MSNS Coin Clubs & for
the Scotsmans ' Dealership (The Annual Silver Dollar Show) for some
time to come. It is nice.
oly
French a "Foreign" language according to whom?!
Who has decided that English is the only and/or the "official" language of
this NG?!
After all this is not an exclusively "english" NG, right?...
And the OP's title was expressly addressed and meant to attract the
attention of *one specific* poster, so you can ignore the thread if you are
not him!
And then also were that PING there, so your nationalistic reaction is rude
not the use of french!
Are you sure you are not another sock puppet of "Bob F.", "RF", etc by any
chance?...

It's better in Italian;-)
"Sono Pazi Questi Romani"--->SPQR;-)
That was the answer Obelix gave to Atserix when he was asked what does it
mean SPQR on the Roman's flags;-)
Heh. I love Asterix, and have collected all the books - in French, bien
sur! The first time I went over there I stopped by a comic book shop on the
Boul' Mich' and purchased about twenty of them, hardcover no less. The
exchange rate was about nine francs to the dollar at the time, so they were
cheap, but carrying them all over Paris and on the plane was not fun.

Me, too!
In Greek...of course;-)
I have the entire collection but only in regular, paper cover...
IMO this comik is the best ever, even better than Lucky Look which I also
love!
At the beginning when I was reading in Greek "they are fool those Romans" I
couldn't understand what's the funny part but later when I learned Italian
and saw a copy in Italian I understood the relation between the Roman flag
and the "Sono Pazzi Questi Romani";-)
Uderzo and Goscinny were really geniuses!
Yes, they were, but here we are hijacking yet another thread. Shame on us.
Apparently, Julius Caesar made a similar remark about the Gauls when he was
fighting there, and that's how the expression got started. Now it is used
with virtually any nationality.
The translator into Italian had to be quite clever to make that transition
from SPQR!

I feel extremely ashamed, indeed;-)

Beware the Jabberwocky...
Jud - the 'Thread-jacker'
"Family Guy" beats "The Simpsons"???
I mean this as nicely as possible, BUT, Bee-geezus-becky, we got'em
comin' out of the woodwork on RCC.
OMG, the worst episode of "The Simpsons" beats the best episode of
"Family Guy".
oly
I did beware, but he snuck up behind me, and that's why I am what I am
today.
James the Jabberwocked
I could make a very crude statement here, but let the record show that I
practice considerable restraint in not doing so.
Astrix is not in the same category as the cartoons you mention. Each story
was parceled out into newspapers over a period of approximately one full
year, one episode per week. Then when the tale was completed, the
individual episodes would be collated and published first in hardcover, then
softcover. A few of the stories have been released in full animation, with
running times of about an hour each.
Par Toutatis!
James the Addicted
The Jabberwocky turned you into a retired French teacher with a passion for
old coppers? Zut alors! Who knew?
And how did that happen? Did he con you into an inattentive fugue with the
old "try these two mushrooms" ploy, or were you just pre-occupied with
hunting the fabled Snark Bird Penny?
Heh heh, I've done that, Man.

"South Park" is very very good most of the time, IMHO not as
consistently funny as "The Simpsons" (the range from the worst to the
best "South Park" is wider than the range of the worst to best
"Simpsons". Occasionally "South Park" flops, but not often.
"South Park" often has a current events topical nature. "The
Simpsons" is just stupid dumb pointless funny all the time.
oly
I like South Park, but it isn't being shown atm, on any free UK TV
channel.
(I know I could probably watch it streaming on the Internet, but it just
isn't the same as settling down in front of the TV.)
>"The
>Simpsons" is just stupid dumb pointless funny all the time.

They do it very well too.
