7 Bi-metallic 100 dinar from Algeria..by Frans Dubois, Netherlands
Algeria issued a new commemorative Bi-metallic coin of 100 Dinar dated 2002
to celebrate 40 years of independance from France. Instead of the horse at
the regular bimetallic 100 dinar it shows a "40" and 5 stars. The reverse is
the same as the regular 100 dinar.
8. Bi-metallic new items...Cliff Anderson, USA
Among this week's new images are these items.
a. 2002 $10 silver proof "First Issue of the Euro" commemorative from (of
all places) the Bank of Nauru. This is clearly a fantasy piece for
collectors who can't resist the odd item. Notice that it is in the shape of
the European countires using the euro. Its concept is a bit convoluted,
since in order to include Greece, a Euro country, it has to attach it with
the Balkan states that are not members. And of course Switzerland is
gratuitously included. The golden replica of the 1 euro design in cameo
gives it a Bi-metallic appearance, though the gold design does not appear on
both sides. It measures 72mm from Portugal to Greece, and 77mm from Scotland
to Greece. Though it may be hard to see in the image, the reverse does show
a nicely detailed crest for Nauru. I found this through the Lauren Benson
mail order shop.
b. The 21mm bimetallic and central holed amusement token is from the
"Compulsory Skill Play Co.", and reads "Free Amusement No Value" and bears a
number "3" on one side. The eBay seller noted that it it is not further
identified. Can any member further descirbe this piece?
c. And the large 42mm bi-metallic piece is a 1991 Mexican medal marked
"Palacio de Mineria" with a stylized head of a helmeted miner, marked "Cinco
Siglos en Mexico" or "Five Centuries of Mining in Mexico". Martin has this
listed in the Bi-metallic catalog "The World of Bimetallics". This too was
found on eBay.

14. Brick-and-Mortar Coin Shop Robbed ... by JD White, USA
Another small coin shop here in the United States has suffered a
devastating burglary and in danger of closing it's doors forever. This small
mom and pop coin shop carried everything collectors could want from US and
world coins to supplies and the new Euro coin sets and Bi-metallics. I am
part of a small group of collectors seeking support to help this shop stay
in business and we are appealing to coin collectors worldwide for
assistance. Please read the complete story here:
http://www.jdsworld.net/article/robbery.html and please do what you can to
assist. These are really good people and they deserve our assistance. If
small shops like this continue to close, soon there won't be any left.
