COLTON, N.Y. -- As the Thanksgiving holiday
approaches, students at Colton-Pierrepont
Central had their own "Thanks for Giving"
lunch Thursday.

For the past three weeks, students have
been bringing in pennies and other coins
to donate to a local organization. The
fundraiser is part of a national program
called Penny Harvest.

The "Thanks for Giving" lunch event is
an opportunity for the school to show
its appreciation for the students'
contribution. As a special treat, teachers
and St. Lawrence University football
players serve the students their meal.

"I'm excited because football players
are coming and serving us food and it's
really yummy to eat," second grader
Grace Roucell said.

"When we get to get out and talk to
people in the community, it's good.
It's good for us and it's good for
the team because maybe these kids will
be fans one day and come out and watch
us play football," said John Gatti, a
St. Lawrence University football player.

Once the school determines how many
pennies were donated, students will
select an organization to donate the
money to.

Last year, the school donated $500 to
the Colton-Parishville Neighborhood
Center.
