I've never been much into coin collecting. I do love reading about
history, all periods and like many I love the Roman Empire
period.
One reason I've never tried collecting coins is because I thought they
would cost far more than I'm willing to pay. I figured a Roman coin from
the first century, being so old, would cost thousands and thousands of
dollars. But I was told by a friend that
you can buy bags of old Roman coins for under one hundred dollars. He also
said you have to watch out for fakes.
So please inform me - What do decent Roman coins from the first and
second century go for? I'm not after perfect quality. I just want to own a
few. I think it would be awesome to own ancient coins. What about fakes?
Are there any reputable companies online that sale ancient coins?
Where's a good place to start looking for a newbie?
Thanks
