1952-D wheat penny

Received it in change recently... been a while since that happened... so
I spent it a few days later paying a lunch check in a local diner which
opened in 1948... seemed like an appropriate place to re-circulate it...
maybe some kid or collector got it back in change.

Just the other day in change I received a brilliantly shiny 1986
penny... I suspect the hard economic times may have people taking
stashed coins to Coinstar machines... and then the coins find their way
into local banks... and are given to local merchants... The life long
habit of checking pocket change is hard to break and very seldom even
produces a faint smile any more.

Those of us that started our collections from pocket change as kids
still get a "glint" if we find something different, such as your wheat
cent. I still check my nickels (my coin of choice back in the late
1950s) for anything. I haven't found anything particularly different
in a long time, but my 6-year-old daughter showed me a coin she'd
gotten in change from school recently. It was a common date Mercury
dime I'd grade as G-4. I put it in a 2x2 for her. Now she's a YN.
