Well, after NO local availability of the Type 1 Log Cabin 2009 Lincoln
Cent, the residents of Lincoln's own Springpatch are just SWAMPED this
week with the Type 2 Railsplitter Cents... they are in cash drawers at
all the local restaurants and retailers and I've even found two of
them on the parking lot or on the floor. These seem to be
Philadelphia issues (I have two rolls, obtained from an area bank at
face value, that are rolled in such a way that I can't see the
obverses).

What a change for the better. Of course, the local coin collecting
community is eagerly awaiting the Type 3 Politician/ Old State Capitol
Building 2009 Lincoln cent, as that historic building exists here
today as a Lincoln shrine.

That's all well and good but, pray tell, what does it have to do with
Frank Provasek's repeated suspensions from eBay?
Oh wait, Fwankie WAS selling rolls of the new cents.

James, I'm afraid we are losing sight of the main purpose of this NG.
None of the above has a thing to do with Frank Provasek's multiple
suspensions from eBay.
Why Frank Provasek refuses to come up with a BELIEVABLE explanation for
his multiple suspensions and auction cancellations is extremely curious.
I completely discount his usual claptrap about "vindictive individuals"
reporting "all" his eBay auctions, especially since he has yet to
present one iota of proof to back up his wild accusations.

Frank has never attacked me personally in these pages, so I choose to let
him be. Besides, I see firsthand real things on eBay that are far, far more
detrimental to the numismatic hobby than anything that Frank's detractors
have ever accused him of doing.

The wheel of karma has caught up to the oft suspended Mr. Frank
Provasek.
I have been thinking of filing a complaint with eBay for auction
interference by Frank Provasek (FRANKCOINS).
He has urged sellers to block me from bidding on the PCGS board.
Frank Provasek is obsessed with me.
He went thru every feedback I ever left on eBay so as to list the few
well-deserved negatives I left for bad sellers.
Fans of Lil Abner may well remember Joe Btsflk, the character who went
about with a perennial rain cloud over his head, not unlike Mr.
Provasek.

A rant follows:

Jeezy peezy, it is NOT what people think of you that counts,
especially in a messed-up morally and mentally deteriorating society
where a left-wing, non-white, homosexual elite has taken over the
determination and dissemnination of the system of values (and much
else).

In our present society, even numismatics is threatened because it
reminds people of the actual past in a way that the leftist half-breed
& queer elite cannot quite control. The elites would rewrite history
to suport their system of "values", but the coins and medals and
tokens are immutable - and thus dangerous.

Also, the leftist, half-breed & queer elite cannot tolerate the fact
that historic coins are a generally store of value that is largely
outside of their control (outside of their ability to steal through
currency debasement). Numismatics has to be portrayed as a preserve
of regressive dead white european bigoted males (such as myself)
because ultimately it has to go to the scrap heap - that because the
study of coins occasionally makes people think for themselves.

America is going into a new dark ages (and it is intentional) and
relics of the 18th and 19th Century Enlightenment like Numismatics
(and foreign languages and libraries with real books & old newspapers
and museums with classical European artifacts and even The Hardy Boys)
have to be thoroughly discredited and destroyed.

Regardless, there is an ultimate standard of values, and it is NOT
based upon what other people think of you. NOT NOT NOT!!! PC is a
moron who licks his photos of Al Franken clean with his tongue, in a
daily act of homage and fealty. He used to do the same with photos of

=======================

Jesus H. Christ, oly, WTF is wrong with you?

"A left-wing, non-white, homosexual elite has taken over the determination
and dissemnination of the system of values (and much else)"? Where the hell
has that happened? As I sit here, Gov. Sanford of SC is being dragged
through the news for having an illicit affair. That sure sounds like
old-time, God-fearing, Christian morality at work. And a gay spokesman is
on NPR whining that Obama is not acting on their needs. That hardly sounds
like the "homosexual elite" having their way and imposing their values on
society. Sen. Larry Craig's reputation has not been rehabilitated after he
was caught trolling for gay partners in an airport rest room.
African-Americans still furtively speak of gay activity as being on the down
low. The stigma of "Don't ask, don't tell hasn't changed for the military.
Congress and other government positions still have closeted gays afraid to
admit their homosexuality. What the hell are you talking about?

"Also, the leftist, half-breed & queer elite cannot tolerate the fact that
historic coins are a generally store of value that is largely outside of
their control (outside of their ability to steal through currency

debasement)"?

What kind of paranoid fantasy conspiracy have you concocted here? Cite
credible examples that prove that "the leftist, half-breed queer elites"
cannot tolerate numismatics for that reason.

BTW, your code use of "half-breed" for Obama is especially repugnant.
Especially considering that even your blue-eyed, pale-skinned Scandinavian
ancestors have to trace their ancestry back to Africa. So what does that
make you? Practically all the DNA in you is of African origin, oly. You're
one of "them" and to the extent that you may claim not to be, in one
interpretation that just makes you a semi-albino mutant from the original
pure racial stock. It cuts both ways, pal. He who lives by racism dies a
thousand deaths through racism.

"Numismatics has to be portrayed as a preserve of regressive dead white

european bigoted males"?

Portrayed by whom? Where? When? Sheesh.

Numismatics "has to go to the scrap heap - that because the study of coins
occasionally makes people think for themselves"?

Hubris on top of paranoia is not a pretty sight. In the grand order of
activities that "make people think for themselves," numismatics ranks
somewhere between gardening and sorting socks. And even if handling a few
gold coins makes a few people a little more appreciative of precious metals,
who, pray tell, is trying to push numismatics onto the scrap heap?

"Foreign languages and libraries with real books & old newspapers and

museums with classical European artifacts and even The Hardy Boys) have to

be thoroughly discredited and destroyed"? Cite credible examples that
anyone, anywhere, is discrediting and destroying them. If anyone is
attacking study and libraries and the reading of real books, it's the
religious fundamentalist right.

"America is going into a new dark ages"? Yes, I agree that's a distinct (if
not entirely likely) possibility, although for reasons that probably are
diametrically opposite to yours. The denigration of science and education
in favor of ignorance and religious dogma is dragging us back into the dark
hells of fundamentalism. Dittoes to the dogmatic diatribes of the
talk-radio echo chamber. The reactions of bigoted reactionaries like you
show that ignorance and fear still drive xenophobia and intolerance. And if
any "elites" have been selling us a bill of goods on values, it's the
age-old story of the rich exploiting the system while selling the unwashed
masses a perverted version of the doctrine of individual responsibility, to
the effect that it's their own damn, lazy-ass fault that they're spoiled
parasites and not millionaires like them - even as middle-class workers are
going broke, are out of work or forced to settle for low-paid dead-end jobs,
are losing their homes, have lost their pensions, can't afford medical
treatment, and can't find a way out of this nightmare version of the
American dream.

If I thought you were on meds, oly, I'd give you the standard UseNet advice
that it's time to renew your scrips. But IMO this is the real you:
ignorant, afraid, paranoid, mean and bigoted. In one sense it's been
interesting to see how you've let more and more of the "real" oly show
through in rcc. A first it was the occasional passing racial or ethnic
slur. Now it's full-blown paranoid rants. I say it's "interesting" in the
way that it's hard to take your eyes off an impending train wreck. But in
either case the end result is tragic and ugly. Maybe it's time you should
look into getting some meds. Not that they'd cure the underlying
pathologies, but maybe they would allow you stick to constructive
contributions about numismatics. Who knows, maybe they'd even allow you
room to think rationally about the events and trends that actually are
harming American society and its citizens.

In these observations you have summed up the greatest threats to America
that we have seen since our founding. The actual perpetrators of these have
influence vastly beyond their numbers, thanks to the "state-owned-and-run,
drive-by, extreme left, elite media" that they so thoroughly love to
despise. These preachers and media blowhards have served as vectors of a
disease that kills the mind just as surely as did smallpox and plague kill

news:h1vu6...@enews2.newsguy.com...

I've just started reading "Deer Hunting with Jesus". It's by a journalist
who decades later returns to his home town of Winchester, VA which is a
typical example of rural bedrock Puritan conservatism and rugged
individuality. (It's just a piece along the road from me so I know whereof
he speaks).

He is surprised and dismayed at how the otherwise good, decent, hard-working
people there have been struggling against the depredations of businessmen
and corporations (the real "elites") who exploit them, while at the same
time mouthing the Limbaugh platitudes that have been fed to them by their
exploiters, who want them to feel lucky that only half their jobs have
disappeared overseas while the other half barely pay above subsistence
level.

Large corporations and local Winchester business moguls grew fat while the
most of the others struggled with decisions like whether to scrimp on buying
food or their meds this month. Nevertheless, any measures that might help
restore any balance to the playing field are denounced as socialism that
will rot the heart out of Amurrica as we know and love it. The corporations
and local business barons must always be treated with reverence for their
largesse and the jobs they provide, even if the largesse was made possible
only through the low-paying jobs they deign to offer from on high. If
anyone besides themselves is to be held responsible for their marginal
conditions, it's those damn librul elites and their parasite minorities. I
see all this as a parallel offshoot of the dumbing down of America that has
been inflicted on our populace.

Furthermore, while his thesis may sound like an "elitist librul rant" he's
actually quite critical of the cocktail party crowd because they too have
started to believe their own PR. They have lost contact with this large
segment of working-class America and look down on them. They've forgotten
that these folks are precisely the people who once were the backbone and
principal beneficiaries of progressive politics. He also finds that when
you scratch beneath the typical dittoing of the platitudes and focus these
working-class folks on the specifics of their lives, they end up agreeing
with many of the traditional populist "librul" ideas. IOW, everyone -
including activists as well as the "closet" liberals and the rabid
conservatives - has put themselves into a black box where prejudice and
stereotypes trump thoughtful discovery, analysis, and cooperative action.
Liberals aren't immune to self-destructive dumbing down, either.

Of course, oly locked himself in that closet ages ago. Except in his case
it's now brewing up to pathological proportions and starting to leak out
around the edges because he no longer can keep a lid on it. I'm not saying
that with any of the gleeful satisfaction of UseNet schadenfreude, only with
regret. It really is sad to see this kind of descent into the heart of
darkness by an otherwise intelligent person.

I suspect that although you find oly's behavior unacceptable, your sense of
decorum will keep you from getting really down and dirty on it. That's
okay - for similar reasons I stayed out of the recently concluded Breen
Wars. And I'm sure that Finnan and/or some of his nyms will come to the aid
of his rcc ally oly. (How is it that a self-proclaimed socialist is also a
closet bigot? Go figure.) But I'm tired of saying nothing in response to
his mean-spirited bigotry and ignorance. My apologies in advance to anyone
who is offended by OT flame wars. Now that he's in full rant mode, he's
going to get it back in kind.

This paragraph is an exact fit for a coin dealer whom I've known and done
business with for over a quarter of a century. For the first 20 of those
years we got along famously, and there were no politics or religion in the
equation at all. But then he started listening 3 hours a day to Limbaugh,
followed by 3 hours of Hannity, followed by 3 hours of "Christian" radio,
all at a volume that could easily be heard by anyone as soon as he walked in
the door. Once I objected to all this, an indication in his eyes that I was
a pablum-puker, he started in on me every time I visited the shop, to the
point where I can no longer stomach going in there. It's really sad to see
how the mind drugs of talk radio have virtually destroyed one of the finest

Interesting thought. In my view listening to his hateful propoganda does
nothing but add negativity to my life. I am better off not hearing that
crap and feel that it is best to not try to engage someone who is so lost in
his imaginary world of evil libruls and "half-breed" leaders. That kind of
talk just makes me want to puke. To engage Oly would be like Don Quixote
battling windmills. Never engage in debate with hateful morons. They will
only drag you down to their level and then beat you because they are experts
at that level.

I called him out correctly a long time ago when Oly was taunting Ira with
his hateful anti-semitic "Ira-whey" moniker. Any doubt I held with regard
to that harsh assessment has been erased with his recent rants.

All this has been facilitated by the now-ubiquitous availability of opinions
ready-to-wear. Now, everybody can be an expert on everything. Why do any
thinking at all when all you need to do is regurgitate a few 30-second sound
bites? I remember a time, and so do you, when people were much more willing
to consider opposing points of view. What really is hard for even me to
understand is how, during the 19th century, people like Robert Ingersoll
still managed to play to houses packed with conservatives and religious
fundamentalists. While I was doing a recent research project, I had to go
back through some smalltown newspapers from the 1860s through the 1910s and
was amazed at the open-minded and intellectual content I found.

Oly and I have a number of things in common besides numismatics, and we have
met and talked in person at a number of shows. While I have never met Bob,
he and I share an interest in Canadian numismatics, as well as linguistic
topics. I enjoy interacting with them on those common grounds, and do not
expect them or anyone else to buy into "my" agenda any more than I might buy
into theirs. The relative anonymity of Usenet often brings out the seamier
side of us all, and we say things that we might never say face to face, so I
have to look past a lot of things. This anonymity also normally hides
completely any crosses that we individually bear that contribute to the way
we are.

As for the Breen Wars, they are likely never to be concluded. I felt that I
had to plonk Reid at one point just to extricate myself from what I
considered a repetitive and abusive personal attack, but have since
unplonked him and will consider his views once again, but only on other
topics. In the end, each of us has to formulate his own rules of engagement
where r.c.c. is concerned.

After 26 years on the Internet I've had to sink to their level countless
times. I don't go looking for trouble, but when not intervening would leave
me feeling guilty about "good men doing nothing in the face of evil" I put
on my biohazard suit and have at them in the language that they understand.
You're right in that you'll never change their minds. The point is not to
let their specious crap go unanswered in front of God and everybody on the

Now there's a religious statement that I can accept, provided that 1) one
doesn't make public claims as to the nature of that relationship, and 2) one
doesn't speculate as to another's relationship to God. Unfortunately, I
have found precious few believers who accept even one of those two
conditions. Instead, the mode is to tout one's relationship with God in a
blasphemous attempt to demonstrate his superiority over others.

While I wouldn't want to wax too romantic about those by-gone days -
journalism, political debate, and parlor discourse going all the way back to
colonial times had large doses of what we would recognize as the same kind
of unthinking rancor that we see today - there was a certain presumed
requirement for civility, tolerance, and open-mindedness that seems to have
evaporated in recent years. As recently as the 1980s, politicians of
opposite views would interact with civility and collegialism when they
weren't unloading their rhetoric on reporters and the Congressional Record.
Sometimes the civility masked disregard for the other's views ("My esteemed
colleague from the great state of X" often being code for "That jerk from
the dismal marches of X") but at least the decorum and due deference usually
were there.

(Marginally Useless Trivia: Ingersol was born in Illinois and taught school
in Mt. Vernon, IL, some 160 miles south of oly's cave. Worth noting only
because of oly's frequent, marginally correct claims regarding Lincoln's
Illinoisian provenance.)

I've agreed with and exchanged witticisms with Bob, and I respect his
opinons on coins when he's not drilling on his favorite targets of derision.
I've had enough exchanges with oly to know for sure that we aren't twins
separated at birth, but I find nuggets of useful facts and thought-provoking
opinions in parts of his postings as well - even WRT economics and politics.
However, perhaps it's just as well that I've never met either (although I am
intimately familiar with Finnan's cliffside village of residence). Based on
what I know about them, I would find it rather uncomfortable to meet face to
face. Not that I wouldn't be civil or that they couldn't, but it's one
thing to learn negative things after the fact about someone you already know
personally. If OTOH all you know of them is what they type on the Internet,
and some of those things are contemptible, it's hard to keep your contempt
out of the equation.

I figured you must have been pretty burned out when you, an avowed
non-plonker, killfiled him. Skimming and skipping posts is the thinking
man's first rule of UseNet engagement. Unless I'm already involved in the
thread or have marked it for following, I only read maybe one in four or
five posts in their entirety. I'm sure there are posters here who only give
my posts the 1-in-5 check or even automatically skip over anything from
mazorj. Machts nicht even if they killfile me because the First Amendment
isn't a two-way street. If what I have to say isn't useful, informative, or
entertaining, I don't deserve and shouldn't expect a following.

Speaking of trying to be entertaining while getting back on topic, did you
hear the one about the priest, the rabbi, and the numismatist who walked
into a bar? The priest and the rabbi were looking for lost souls to rescue.
The numismatist was there to pass out presidential dollars as tips, nyuk,
nyuk, nyuk.

(I may have to killfile myself after that one.)

Well, I lived in NYC for many years and can speak from first-hand

The vast majority (but not all) of them were of the "minority"

Right. I don't think that as with the coinage rule, presidents should have
to die before they qualify. But there should be a school and street naming

As for Lincoln's provenance, nobody said it better than the man
himself:

http://showcase.netins.net/web/creative/lincoln/speeches/farewell.htm

This is one of the great set-pieces of American history; Springpatch

If you can show me where Lincoln said anything half so heartfelt about
Kentucky or Indiana or his father's Matoon, Illinois homestead, it
would be news to me.

Human nature being what it is, I have no doubt there were lowlifes of
all races eager to make a quick buck on this tragedy.
The DC area is heavily populated by minorities, so it would stand to
reason that a large amount of minorities would be involved in trying to
perpetrate a fraud on the city/insurance companies.
Typically the insurance companies and city will pay nuisance value to
the vast majority of questionable claims since it is cheaper than
litigation.

I haven't read anything to that fraud effect in the massive amount of local

I do think that the local lawyers started salivating as soon the slightest
hint of negligence on the part of Metro was reported.

So let oly kick the Big Apple all he wants. You'll be providing subtle or
not so subtle support for his bigotry anyway. Just don't try to generalize
that to "70,000 DC minority types".

Which means nothing unless you have an accurate census of all the minorities
and non-minorities among the by-standers. In many areas where DC buses run
through, you'd have a hard time finding enough whites on the street to field
a pick-up basketball team. I imagine the same is true for many areas of NYC

70,000? Put up or shut up, jackass. Provide an authoritative, credible
cite for your vicious, bigoted mendacity. Talk radio idiots and your anus
do not count as credible sources.

And since you opened the door with your hypocritical pious claim to moral
superiority in your neck of the woods...

If there's any accident insurance fraud in River City, it's your own
Bloomington homeboy insurance company that's been guilty of it. "A group of
active and former State Farm agents earlier presented a letter to the United
States Senate Commerce Committee discussing State Farm's fraudulent use of
medical utilization review companies designed to lower payments to victims
in auto accidents, fraudulent use of after-market auto parts, history of
misrepresenting life insurance policies as investment vehicles, overcharging
on homeowner's insurance and de facto redlining."
http://www.disasterprepared.net/board/messages/343.html

"Honest white crackers" my ass.

Further evidence that Illinois is the real refuge of accident scoundrels:

"Buying a used car has always been a little risky. Was the car once crunched
on the Kennedy? Mangled on the Hillside Strangler? Is the magic of a body
shop hiding something? It's not in a salesman's interest to divulge that
information, and a mechanic might not ferret it out. In recent years,
though, buyers have turned to companies like Carfax and public databases to
uncover a car's history. That ability has given consumers some confidence.
Did you know, though, that those vehicle history reports don't list Illinois
accidents? Did you know there are huge holes in the data? That, shamefully,
is the case in Illinois. And it's dictated by state law. Unless a car has
been totaled and an insurance claim filed in the state, there's virtually no
way for prospective buyers to find out if a car has been in a wreck here.
Information on reported traffic accidents comes to the Illinois Department
of Transportation. But the law explicitly prohibits the department from
publicly releasing the data."
- Chicago Tribune editorial, 3/1/06

"Honest white crackers" my ass. More like a bunch of thieves aided and
abetted by their lackeys in Springpatch.

Auto insurance fraud by Illinois cops? Sure, we've got that:

racist drivel, and deflate your misplaced, overweening sense of moral

I said by provenance, not by preference. Lincoln was from Kentucky,
then Indiana, and spent the first 21 of his 56 years there, not in
Illinois. (I wonder how many Americans are aware of that factoid?)
Lincoln may have left his heart in Illinois but by birth and early
provenance he was no more an Illinoisan than George W. Bush is a
Texan. By birth and by provenance, Bush is a Yale- and
Harvard-educated Connecticut Yankee, not a good ol' down-home Texas
boy. No matter how many times he may proclaim his place in the Lone
Star State, or how many Texans claim him as their own, he's still a
New England damyankee. Nothing wrong with that, them's just the
facts, just as Lincoln is rightly claimed through birth by Kentucky.
Springpatchians can rightly be proud of their association with the
Great Emancipator, but you will just have to share him with others.

My father was born a stone's throw from Carbondale in a company
shantytown not all that far from the Kentucky line. As an infant he
moved to Chicago and then to Detroit. If you asked him where he was
from, he never said Chicago or Detroit. It always was the small
coal-belt village that he left before reaching the age of 2, of which
he had absolutely no memories. Roots is roots and they're determined
at birth.

Point taken. It doesn't change the fact that he was born in Kentucky, moved
to Indiana, and didn't come to Illinois until the first 3/8 of his life
already had gone by. IL has its claim to him, so does KY and even IN. That
was my only point so it's case closed as far as I'm concerned.

> Obama doesn't say jack-shit about

You've made this false claim before and others have demanded proof that you
have not yet supplied. IOW you continue to lie about Obama's birthplace,
just as you lie with your other racist rants.

However, all this is your attempt to divert attention from your original
racist rants. To restore your focus, oly, here's what started it along some
of with my response, to which you have yet to respond. I've numbered them
so please respond by the numbers:

1. "A left-wing, non-white, homosexual elite has taken over the
determination
and dissemnination of the system of values (and much else)"?

It's not enough simply to respond to a few of my examples here. Prove that
"A left-wing, non-white, homosexual elite has taken over the determination

and dissemnination of the system of values (and much else)".

2. "Also, the leftist, half-breed & queer elite cannot tolerate the fact

that
historic coins are a generally store of value that is largely outside of

their control (outside of their ability to steal through currency
debasement)"?

What kind of paranoid fantasy conspiracy have you concocted here? Cite
credible examples that prove that "the leftist, half-breed queer elites"
cannot tolerate numismatics for that reason.

3. "Numismatics has to be portrayed as a preserve of regressive dead white
european bigoted males"?

Who issued that diktat? Who is portraying it thus? Where? When?

4. Numismatics "has to go to the scrap heap - that because the study of
coins
occasionally makes people think for themselves"?

Hubris on top of paranoia is not a pretty sight. In the grand order of
activities that "make people think for themselves," numismatics ranks
somewhere between gardening and sorting socks. And even if handling a few
gold coins makes a few people a little more appreciative of precious metals,
who, pray tell, is trying to push numismatics onto the scrap heap?

5. "Foreign languages and libraries with real books & old newspapers and

museums with classical European artifacts and even The Hardy Boys) have to

be thoroughly discredited and destroyed"? Cite credible examples that
anyone, anywhere, is discrediting and destroying them.

There it is, oly. Five lunatic statements riddled with paranoid xenophobia,
racism, conspiracy theory, and lousy reasoning. You had the gall to post
this crap, but you don't have the balls to prove it when someone calls you
down on it.

You played the gibbering idiot here. Either defend your racist fantasies or
admit them for what they are and apologize.

Paranoia and phobia by definition are pathological conditions. Normal,

Good luck finding any reference to suggest that I support that notion.

:-)

Perhaps it come across that way, but no. The way I phrased the statement
was incorrect because I didn't give it careful thought. I was not sure
even if it would finally post. I just get sick of some people just
bashing always, to the point of driving people away in disgust. I then
just kind of took the opposite extreme, which in retrospect was equally
incorrect, as most extremes are.

Us bigot white folks don't have to make this shit up. BTW, the reporter

Being a conservative W.A.S.P., your bigoted speech disgusts me. You
really need to get out and live a little. Try having an open mind while
observing.

Several of you here speak of minorities, as if their race is the reason
for their social problems.

I can think CLEARLY of several areas of white ghettos in the north east,
and they are no better. One of them was supposed to have the highest
incest rate in America. Looking around there, I was able to believe it
possible.

A lot of these inner city type areas are places that used to be
industrious, one place textiles, another place coal, etc,
and in total ignorance we let the country be led by corporations.

The blue collar jobs left the inner cities, and your surprised at the
results?

I don't mind that my past family members helped build a country where you
are free to be a bigot, but it's still sad to see.

I am done entering the political stuff though, I came here to learn about
coins and such.

Why does having an "open mind" mean buying into the multicultural
diversity bullshit that is destroying the US of A?
Why don't YOU have an open mind for views that differ from yours?
If diversity is the paradigm to which we are all to aspire, where is the
hue and cry for diversity at the historically black colleges like
Grambling?

I still haven't received a "type 1" in change, but enough "type 2"
going around(Chicago area) that I found one metal detecting.

would that be because you falsely accuse him. I don't think your
hands are clean.

I was refering to your posts, but then I'm sure that your simple mind
has trouble comprehending the facts

No, not hardly

Not playing tennis here... so you don't win.
