I have a 1983 pound coin, it looks genuine except it has no edge
lettering, is this rare?

It would help if you posted a picture of the edge in question rather
than a close-up of part of the obverse. That looks perfectly OK. The
edge should read DECUS ET TUTAMEN.

The reason I posted the obverse is because I wanted a second opinion
on it being real, I can show you the side, but there's not much to see
except it has no edge lettering.
