Hi,

I have an 1872 Indian Head Cent that appears to have either doubling in the
lettering of AMERICA and several letters of UNITED STATES, or maybe it's
been repunched. The coin grades a VG+, and although I have other IHC in my
collection, most are G to Fair, so they don't have enough detail showing in
the lettering. I was wondering if it is common in this series for them to
have been repunched, or doubling occurs often. Is it possible I that I have
a doubling error that could be valuable? Thanks in advance for any help you
may have.

I have photos posted on Flickr, with a 1200dpi pic that shows the letters.
Here is the link:

Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

Steve

There are different kinds of doubling. I think the doubling that generally
carries value is the doubling that is produced by a die that has doubled
features, imparting the doubling to each coin that particular die strikes.
Other doubled images are produced by a die that does not have doubled images
and the doubled features on the coin are from common causes. Try this
webpage for more detailed explanation;
