I will be there all day on Friday, and can revisit early Saturday if
necessary. Going to the Cubs game at 3:30 (?better check) on Saturday, so
have to be out in time to make that. I'm going to attempt to do everything
I need on Fri, tho. My SO, who I turned into a type set collector a few
years ago, may want to go back on Sat. It's up to here, of course :)

Thu-Fri. I will give the BEP drawing a shot too. Very happy about
the ANA being back in Chicago. oly

Actually, I won't be there this year. My normal tablemate decided not
to take a table at this show, and I couldn't justify getting one on my
own. My BEP hand-pulled proof customer base has shrunk yet again this
year, so I can't rely on profits from HPPs to cover my expenses without
having a bourse table.

SO, my buddy from Atlanta will be getting my BEP hand-pulled proofs for
me at the show ... I'm sure you remember him from previous shows.
Please remind him that any cards you win will be sent to me, and have
him decrease my order from him appropriately. (If you do win one of the
first ten cards at the first drawing, please make sure it gets
show-cancelled --- John or his buddy Lee should be able to provide some
appropriate stamps to use with the cancel.)

Enjoy the show, hope to make it to Philly next year. (Not a big fan of
the ANA "anchoring" the show in Chicago anyway, and hope they go back to
rotating it throughout the country as soon as the multi-year contract is
completed ...).

Was at the ANA today (8/18/2011) from 9AM to 3PM. Crowd was O.K. but
the joint wasn't crowded. Saw mon vieux professeur, Monsieur James.
There were a few numismatic luminaries like Mr. Bowers, Mr. Don
Bailey, Mr. Sayles, Mr. Raymond Dillard, and had a nice brief chat
with our out-going President, Mr. Mischler. Mr. Doran was there
too.

There was a neat German 10 thaler on display, a rarity formerly owned
by Virgil Brand, subsequently owned by Jane Brand Allen. The First
Columbian Half Dollar, in its special copper display frame, was on
display (as well as the check from The Remington Typewriter Comany for
$10,000 which was used to pay for the coin). The pattern Mark, Quint,
Bit and Copper (Nova Constellatio) were on display and this set had
two of its own armed guards.

It was a good show. I forgot all about the BEP press.

Ken, glad to hear you are ok, as many folks (myself included) were
wondering where you were. I kept asking Mike Beck if he had seen you,
and now I know why nobody saw you! I also saw Jim H. (Mr. Jaggers) who
said that Oly was not only at the show, but was in front of the CWTS
table while I was there. Sorry I didn't get to meet you in person. I
was there from Tuesday/Thursday and had a hell of a time getting back
home due to thunderstorms. I should have been home by 7:30pm but
didn't roll in until 3:30am. I didn't get any of the hand-pulled
intaglios either Ken.

I guess it's official, it was THE LARGEST COIN SHOW EVER! 470 tables
and there was quite a crowd too, much more crowded than Boston or Los
Angeles, even given the larger space. It was a crazy setup though, got
lost a couple times and not enough restrooms. I picked up some early
commemoratives at a decent price. Although I brought a chunk of change
with me, I ran out quickly. I wanted to buy some coin jewelry from my
buddies at the Royal Canadian Mint, but they didn't accept credit
cards, or checks. Luckily I found a dealer friend who would cash a
check for me. Speaking of my RCM buddies, they stood me up for our
annual drinking fest on Thursday night. They didn't start their dinner
until 8pm and still wanted to get together, but some time after 11pm.
As I was catching an early flight, I had to decline. Oh well,
Philadelphia is just 11 1/2 months away!
