holiday 'swaps'. Too bad nobody has continued them. I also would like

Funny you should mention him. He emailed me almost immediately after
my posting. He still reads RCC, but due to trolls, spammers, and
flamers, has avoided posting. I guess that these type people have made
some regulars into lurkers. Such are the ways.

It's sad that we can not moderate this group some. The on the other
side whats killing this group and other groups is what use to make
Usenet so great. The freedom to freely express your self. But a lot of
people are going over that line. So its damn if you do or damn if you
don't.

You mean censor it? That would be a brilliant move. Especially when the
moderator starts killing threads that don't interest him/her, and yours end
up on the cutting room floor. It's been the death of more than one
"so-called" newsgroup.

The sad fact about that board is that they require you to kiss the ass
of everything PCGS or else they boot you off for contempt of plastic.

I stopped going there partly for that very reason, and partly because
most of the posts were little more than "Hey, what do you think of
this cool coin I just got?" and the predictable drivel of replies like
"Great!!! Nice coin!!!" regardless of whether it's an outstanding or
run-of-the-mill coin, all coming from the same in-house claque of
self-congratulatory enablers.

I've considered looking over there out of curiousity, but based on the

I am not a frequent poster, or even a frequent visitor, but, as now, I
stop in and Larry Louks and Mr. Jaggers and BiggFredd and many others
are names I miss, as well.
Any open forum is what you make it and it if you want to surrender it
to trolls and spammers, then that's that. Basically, you can filter
out or ignore that, just as easily.
And the nonsense is, indeed, one dimension of the open group. Gotta
take the bad with the good.
As for the moderatred forums, I do visit them and I do mention them
annually in my monthly "Internet Connections" column for the ANA.
Moderated forums have their place and it is important and significant.
I find that the people who complain about moderation are often those
who are best shunted aside by it. In this day, you can start your own
forum and unmoderate it until you are blue in the face, if you wish.
RCC has been and will be an important opportunity for the numismatic
community.
