Silver $39.85 + 1.53
Woo! Woo! Everybody on board the precious metals train!!
(I'll have to rub it in to one of the local collectors at
a coin club meeting Tuesday night ... he wanted to buy one
of my bullion coins when gold hit $1,600, but decided to
"wait until it goes down a hunnertbux an ounce" ...)

Interesting how silver seems more and more to be moving to its own drummer
lately. Last night while gold was moving from about $1690 into the $1700's,
silver was retreating from almost $41 to about $39. I realize both are
affected by different factors, but over the past few years they seem to have
pretty much moved in lockstep. Still, it's fun to watch.

At the TNA show in May, I bought an NGC MS64 $20 Liberty for $2225.
Stupid low premiums on certified gold these days...At Causey's (the
store I managed) we paid $1500
for MS63 Libs back when gold was $500 in the mid 1990s.

I keep irregular hours Ken...sometimes in bed by 10pm, sometimes not
until 3am. However, the problem seems to have been with the Google
groups feed. I didn't get anything from Aug 1 until today.
I wanted some extra ca$h for the ANA convention so I sold a 2006 proof
$50 (1 oz) gold buffalo yesterday for $1771, which was spot price. As
I write this gold is now down to $1753, so I guess I did good...so
far!
Was also surprised to find that the buffalo had no premium, but the
eagles did. Go figure!

Causey's is now Haltom City Coins, owned by Mike Grant. I was
visiting there
last week.
The Causey children and grandchildren were not interested in owning it
and
sued Mrs. Causey to force the sale, which is why Frank left.
Paul Causey, the son, drank himself to death a few months after
getting
his big check.

It wuz for a while earlier this week. On Wednesday 08/10 the closing
spot for gold wuz $1795.40 whilst the closing spot for platinum wuz
$1763.00. I think that's about as high as the "negative spread" got ...

Spot for a BU Buffalo is reasonable, but spot for a Proof Buffalo
sounds Way Too Cheap. Proofs command about a $100 premium when
selling, so they should certainly command a decent premium when
buying. You may want to try another dealer next time ...
