I sell about 30-40 numismatic items a month on ebay. I've been on ebay
since 1999. Ebay was fun when it was new. Now thay have some ridiculous
"Buyer Complaint" where anyone can complain that they item is not as
described and ebay automatically takes their word. I sold a 2006 Buffalo
one ounce 24 carat gold coin to a man in Tuson, Arizona and he claimed it
was NAD. He said he thought it was slabed. I said noting about slabing in
the listing, I order these BULLION coins from Dillon Gage in Eddison, Texas
and they are still sealed in the rippled plastic sheets direct from the US
Mint. Gold had dropped about $40 an ounce since the buyer bought this coin
so I figured that he was using me as insurance against a gold drop, so yeah
the most I could loose was the $40 gold decline and I would relist. Much to
my dismay Paypal had taken the money out of my account but what I received
was a $50 gold buffalo gold plated replica marked COPY. There is nothing I
can do because Paypal has proof that the item was returned by the buyer even
though it is not the same coin. I am giving this warning to people that
this feature is grossly misused. Due to this and some other issues, I feel
that I will end my ebay days. It is truly much too taxing on me emotionally
and physically. They are far from being on the side of the seller. My wife
is seriously ill and I thought that some of the gold that I put back during
good times would help us when we needed it. I would of been better off
taking it to the scammers that sets up at motels and runs ads in the paper
and pay half of what stuff is worth. At least half is better than zero.

I hate ebay!!!!!

Are your auction descriptions as long winded and aimless as
your usenet posts?

Be sure you stress the part about your wife being seriously
ill when you try and sell your counterfeit crap.

Try putting up flyers at Waffle House.

And be sure that the flyers mention the ANA code of ethics because you
get the magazine.

So, 30-40 numismatic items a month projects to 360-480 items per year or
3960 - 5280 over your eBay membership. If this is the first auction you've
had go sour and you are blaming eBay for it, well........ Is this post
meant to warn others to avoid aBay because you once reportedly had a crooked
bidder? How many of those thousands of numismatic items would you likely
have sold without eBay? Perhaps you would have been better off putting
the money you spent on that gold into some conservative bonds if you planned
to sell it whenever you needed money. If you truly believe you would have
been better off selling all your gold to hotel scammers at half value
(because of one experience?), what had you been selling on eBay all along
for prices that apparently pleased you?

You shouldn't "hate".

This seems to be a risky category to sell on ebay. I stick with
industrial surplus and do not get that sort of mistreatment.

I found this chat room on the ANA website but I have received no help at
all, no thanks for trying to warn people,
I am just seeing stupid comments and mocking me. Is this not the pace to go
for help with coins and ebay seller issues?

Your warning really doesn't deserve comment. You got screwed by ebay

It's any night you wan't. Waffle House, like all restaurants,
is a public place. They don't have the right to refuse
anyones request. Just go there and DEMAND the
all you can eat coin trader special.

I've not jumped into the whole eBay thing for just the reason you
stated. Fraud artists. Scammers. Criminals. Overgraders. ;-)

If I do, I'll probably end up videotaping everything I put into an
envelope, and seal it with a marque of some sort, like a postal
tracking sticker (that has a unique ID), and on the opposite
end, video taping the opening of items I receive.

What else can you do? EBay seems to have lost it's corporate mind.

File a police report and/or report with Postal Inspectors or FBI
(interstate crime is federal) then call PayPal and tell them you filed
a police report.

Any night.

I've always had "all I can eat" at Waffle House (and always left
some on the plate).

Grampa's old joke:

Two coin dealers walk into a restaurant
The sign says "Spaghetti $10" (or "all you can eat for $15")
They each finish their plates, and the waitress asked if there's anything
else
Each says "No, I've had all I can eat."

Bill? $15 each.

I have had one or two issues too but non-coin and nothing of any real
value ( < $10). Frankly, if I were going to sell anything of high value
I would either avoid eBay altogether or say no shipping, FTF only. When
doing the FTF I would have the buyer examine the item and sign a receipt
saying the item is accepted. There are too many ways for a buyer to
scam the system now.
