Hi all,
i have been reading the last (i think) Climbing mag and several time
Wolfgang Gullich was mentioned, as the late Wolfgang Gullich. I was
just curious, does anyone know anything about him like when he died and
was it in a climbing accident, how old was he etc.

Hi !
There is a really fine book about Wolfgang Guellich (his biography from
Tilman Hepp : Wolfgang Guellich - ein Leben in der Senkrechten ).
P. S. : He died in 1992 in a car accident (!!).

Shortly after the filming of Cliffhanger, he was killed in a car accident on the
German Autobahn (SP?).

spelling correct.

he had driven in the early morning from the dolomites, where he was
doubling stalone in cliffhanger, to munich, where he had given an interview on the alpin radio show of the 'bayerischer rundfunk'.
after the show he continued to nuernberg. supposedly he fell asleep while driving and crashed into a concrete bridge pillar.
r.i.p.

This is true. It was at his drive back home from a TV interview in Munich
to his home close to Erlangen.

Wolfang Gullich died in a car accident on august 29, 1992. He was
driving home from an interview in Munich about his first ascent of
"action directe"- until now (probably) not repeated. This interview was
very early in the morning. At 8 A:M. he fell asleep in his car drove
off the road and crashed. He died few hours later.
- At least that's what the biography book from Tillmann Hepp says. It's
worth a look at, great story and great pictures of an impressive person.
