It's really starting to get anoying reading the latest Rock and Ice and finding
out that now everyone in the photos are "sending" thier routes. I just don't
like the phrase - it sounds stupid. For god's sake if anyone sees me on a
route, don't yell something stupid like "send it dude." I'd probably untie
and do a nose dive to the ground to put myself out of the pain at having heard
this unbelieveably stupid phrase.

I've always liked "beta." The word says it all.

But I agree ... "send it" sounds so stupid .... I'd much
rather have someone say "fire it up!" or something
just as obvious.

My fave phrase from the Gunks ....

"Go with the vector, dude!"

My least favorite Gunks phrase ...

"Get aggro!"

Tell it like it like is man!!! For God's sake, I was just telling
this girl two weeks ago that if I heard that stupid line " Send
it" again, that I going to loose my marbles. I can't believe I
actually found another person that agrees with me! It's sounds so
juvenile, the way people tag it to every sentence that comes out
of their mouths: "Send a route" "Send a bowl" "Send a beer" "Send
a dump" "Send some Z's" "Send a burrito" etc... Grow up! It almost
trivializes climbing to the point of MTV overtones, pure
stupidity. Of course, these are the same people who think that
zebra-striped clothing is cool.

We used to use that phrase when we were on the shooting range with our
high powered rifles. We thought it was pretty cool to say, "Send it".
Now we use it when we need our bills mailed. "Hey.....Send it".

Welcome back to milk.

Says all what? Its just the letter after alpha and before gamma to me. How
does beta "say" information? I wouldn't mind the answer if anyone knows as
this has often puzzed me. I don't much like jargon myself and often waffle
on for ages saying what I mean in really simple words. People may get bored
talking to me but at least they know what I am on about.

Maybe when people say "send it" they mean put it in an envelope and mail it
to a friend? Just a possibility.

Oh, come on now, can't we get into an intellegent discussion wherein we
debate a week or two the about origin of the phrase? Is it derived from
"ascend" or what?

Be careful here, spray and beta don't always mean the same thing.
Spray can be very derogatory; as in "listen to that guy spray about
himself".

I like the image; like a dog or cat marking its turf.

Actually, "beta" is only slightly cryptic and may not make sense to
some of the younger sport climbers. I'll give you a clue - you could
also use the term "VHS"

What really pisses me off is how people differentiate from old aid
ratings and new aid ratings by calling them, "old school" and "new
school". What the hell? And "send it" is over used, I only hear hardcore
sport climbers using it and alot of the Gumbys over at the Red Rocks.

I guess if anyone got a picture, it would be subtitled "Jim Bower sends it"

Why not nose dive into the person who said it? If you gotta go, at least take

spray could be a derogatory term for unwanted beta (serious problem from
"cool guys" and other genders), but beta and spray are truly distinct
terms.

What about "clue?"

"Get a clue."

"Clueless."

I can't abide this teeny-bopper lingo, man.

Groovy.
