Jeff, there are 3 major climbing areas in the Obed watershed and
a few smaller crags in the area.

The Obed was the first crag developed.

South Clear Creek was the second and is about 2 miles down stream
from the Obed.

The third area is Lilly, which is in-between the other two.

All three are mostly sport climbing areas. There are a few trad
routes spread out among the bolts, but not very many.

There is a bouldering area between Obed and South Clear Creek
called Lilly Boulders that is the main camping area. There are NO
facilities at all.

There are almost no top rope accessible climbs. But there are a
few easier climbs (5.8 to 5.9) at both Lilly and South Clear
Creek.

There are a number of very good climbs at all three areas under
5.11.
Some that come to mind:

At Lilly

Alien (great)
Tarantella (best 5.9 at Lilly)
Ivy League (fun 5.10a)
Tics are for Kids 5.10b)
Lounge Lizard (a little harder but worth it. 5.11b)

At South Clear Creek

Spawn (sandbagged 5.9+, but the best of it's grade at S.C.C.)
Double Feature (sweet 5.10b)
Stage Fright (scary 5.11a)
Best Seat in the House (name says it all. 5.10)
Brothers in Arms (5.10b?)

I haven't been to the Obed area in a while, let someone else
recommend routes there.

These are just a few that come to mind. I wish more of the local
climbers read this news group. I'd love to get a favorites list
going for this area.

There has never been a true guidebook printed for the area. Rock
& Ice and Climbing had a few topos in them back a couple of years
ago. There has been a lot of new route activity since then. If
you're coming on the weekend, there will always be locals out
there that are glad to help a traveling climber. We're a friendly
bunch so don't be afraid to ask.

There is a new indoor gym in downtown Knoxville where a lot of
the climbers hangout. Friday night is a good time to show up if
you're looking for a partner for the weekend. (Friday is $5.00
night, climbers are nothing if not cheap) It's called The
Climbing Center, the number is 423.673.4687.

Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have more
questions.
