Hey Karl,

I just read this blurb on your website:

"I got the nickname "Karl Baba" while studying the Hindi language in
India on a year long post-graduate fellowship from Berkeley. In India,
every wandering holy man, mountain cave-dwelling hermit, or deadbeat
hobo, is a "baba"."

So what's your real name then? Do you know Baba Lou? He knew Ricky
Ricardo, I'm pretty sure. Also, was the Beach Boys song "Baba Baba
Iran" about some baba in Iran? I'm still not very clear about that
one.

Regards,

-Tim

I'm still not used to seeing the word "baba" in print, since that's what
i (and a lot of us brown folk) call their father. And Karl ain't my
daddy. Is he?

They can do DNA tests on beer backwash. Keep that in mind if you
really want to know.

And brown folk never write anything down so you have never seen the
word in print before? Are you implying that we are illiterate?

Or type things.

Oh no. It begins again. Can a brown man not joke about The Brown Man? I don't
un----der---stand
tell me
what is the plan?

Hi Ya'll

Almost back from a little road trip. Couldn't help but notice my name
on a thread, but I don't think there is anything I could add to the
lofty and thoughtful tone folks have already contributed.

Baba is just a nickname. Tons of rec.climbers have climbed with me,
visited my place and know my whole name. I'm not that mysterious, but
this is the dang internet after all and I keep my phone number and last
name off it!

Babs...you know we all love ya, dhuuude, hope yer having a great time...

Actually hoping to hook up with you someday. Got to meet and climb with a
mutual friend last weekend. Steven Cherry was in the neighborhood and I was
fortunate enough to spend a good day climbing with him. Turned him on to one
of my most favorite desert areas (He kicked my butt, but good...).

Anyway, if yer ever in the area, you've got a place to stay and an eager
partner...

Ratzzz...

Yes Karl. This whole thread was just a ruse to summon you, like a
djini from the mists of the road. It is a hommage.

Cool to hear whenever far flung rec.climbers do some climb.

If you are ever in Austin, Karl, the same goes for me. Accept the part
about a place to stay. Our tiny condo would be too claustrophobic!
I'll get your from the airport, though. Hey, e-mail me your full name,
too. Back when I gave you a referral I used your nickname and now feel
kind of silly. ;-)

Starting in the beginning of April, I'll be back with a sickening
vengence. It's the season for getting serious about typing and
cranking!

Peace
