TR. First Cottonwood

been on real rock and since I'm still a nube to Salt Lake and can never
remember wich Cottonwood is which Cottonwood, I'll use first and second.
All you SLC climbers probably know the crag, but it was new for me.
We (my brother and I) hit the "S" curves and got up into some fairly fun
climbs. My brother likes lie-backs, so this is basically what we did (or in
my case tried...).
We started on a 10d. My lead, naturally... So I start up. Great holds 'til
the lie-back. I made it to the last clip and couldn't, try as I might, make
the chains.
On this climb there were 2 lie-back sections, one around the third clip and
one as you pull over to the anchors. After a few wasted tries I finally gave
in and let my brother clip the anchors.
After a bit of a rest I top roped it several times (cheating as much as
possible...) and finally made the anchors.
Next climb was an 11c that my brother wanted to play on. He lead the thing
first try and I had to top rope it...(very unsucessfully, I might add...).
Not much more to say other than I will be sore for at least the next few
weeks from it.
But the rock was warm, the day was beautiful with just a small breeze to
blow the chalk dust around. No Co-eds, but towards three up.m. or so the
rest of the world started filtering in, so we bailed. Wednesday...?? Helllll
ya, I'm up for it...

Thanks...It was great last night. Muscles that good kinda sore, legs tight,
back and neck still burning a bit...but this morning,whoa...I rolled out of
bed and had appearently tweaked a knee. Just about hit the floor when I
tried to put weight on it.
But, no matter what, it's gotta be ready for a couple of hours either
Wednesday or Thursday. Don't know where my brother's taking me, this time,
but there's a lot of climbs in this neck of the woods. Will keep y'all
posted...

Well, might not be that good, but after 4 or 5 years of major medical
problems,
it was sure good to get out.

One foot in front of the other. The world has been good enough, its been
a late wet spring.
Still on track for ski and climb every month. Climbing has been getting
easier, the skiing harder. Planned to go French Haig Robertson on
Monday, woke up to rain, and laughed so hard at my planning, nearly woke
up for good.
I suppose I should post a few more "When I talk about climbing and
donuts", but I got bored by myself. Somehow Dawgs completely unrelated
and much better rambling inspired me. Oh well, the bad typo muse may
come back.
Good to see you back, and I'm still giggling at Christian bad girl cat
fights...

Ahhh come-on, stick around, the place has almost dwindled off to
nothing...'Sides, I plan on a couple of very minor summits this summer and I
need all the morale boosting I can get. I got my boots out the other day and
they still fit. Snow's melting fast and it'll be time to climb, real soon...
Speaking of typo's, I'm on a P.C. now and maybe I just haven't adjusted but
this thing does some pretty strange things, it was even trying to correct
Eugene's posts the other day using misspelled or words it grabbed out of air
somewhere...(real weird...)
Anyway, feels great just being back, it's been way to long...

Big Cottonwood is 70 South (that's a street in SLC) and Little Cottonwood is 90 South
(closer to Sandy).
And the names of the ski areas at the head are best Xx'ed out.

That means we were In Big Cottonwood. We parked at the S curves and hiked up
to the East about a quarter mile. I'll dig out my Cottonwoods Book, as soon
as I can find my stash of climbing books that got boxed and hidden when I
moved up here (SLC)...

Relatives used to live on 7200 South in Cottonwood Heights.
Locations in this area are to be used carefully (as in careful self
powder censoring, especially toward winter time).

Yeah, how does he do that? Tangential only in the inadequate sense
