[Sorry for my bad English - hope you guys understand this anyway]

Hey..
Saw this as part of a funny post on Ropes..

""" Hi. Went to my local "outdoor shop" to check out some new
crampons
when the salesperson asked med what I would use my crampons for. I
answered, truthfully, "for a little bit of this and a little bit of
that - iceclimbing and some mountaineering - probably more of the
first than the latter"...

"Mountaineering?", He asked "Then you would have to use a
'moutaineering rope' for glacier travel and stuff..."

I told him that I already have a rope, a regular, superdry 10.5mm 60m
standard-issue, vanilla flavor climbing rope. The guy tells me "Oh,
you cant use *THAT* for moutaineering - that's lethal and stuff".

I asked him why (I can see that a 'glacier rope' or a 'mountaineering
rope' - don't know the correct english term, sorry - is lighter, due
to it's smaller calibre and it's whorter length) whereas he tells me
"it would freeze broken". """

It reminds of some funny stuff I have heard from the experts in the
local san diego 'climbing shops'.... DISCLAIMER>>> This does not in
any way mean NOMAD VENTURES>>> THEY REALLY KNOW THEIR STUFF THERE..
(more like REI and A16)

1. I got a nice long lecture one day from the climbing rep at one of
the places about why you should never, ever, use a gri gri.. here it
is--- they fail all the time. When asked where and how~ she was not
sure but her instructor told her that when she was taking the climbing
course they offer. Interesting

2. I walked up on my wife chatting with a salesrep about jackets and
they were trying to sell her a very lightweight belay jacket telling
her that it would be warmer than the obviously much warmer jacket next
to it.. I said wow- that is interesting.. how could that be since
these jackets rely on the ammount of loft the jacket has and the one
that is 'warmer' is three times less full of feathers (knowing she had
no idea what a fill rating is)..
They answered simply for me- this one has 800 whatevers of feathers
while this other one has on 700 whatevers so that makes it more warm
overall.. So I kind of chuckled and said wow... thats alot of feathers
in that thin little jacket since that sleeping bag over there has the
same 800 whatevers of feathers...
Puzzled.. we left

Any fun similar stories??

Dude, either I do not get the joke or you just made a fool of
yourself.

While tagging along with a friend shopping for crampons. The sales person
was quite firm in stating that the crampons should fit loose on the
soles/rands of boot. That this would allow for quick removal in the case of
an emergency.

Maybe this was not clear...
She INSISTED that the fill power rating of the down used was the ammt
of down used... I asked if she knew what hte numbers meant and she
demanded that the one with 800 fill down had more feathers in it than
the one with 700 fill down (which is a possibility, but in this case
it was a light weight sierra designs jacket with 800 fill power down
being compared to a TNF nuptse (i think) jacket- one has a little bit
of down of higher fill power but the other has alot more down of
slightly less fill power) She was insisting that fill power rating of
the down used was the ammt of down used and that all down is just
down... there is not any difference.... sorry for the confusion..
