As has been reported, Dan Osman died from rope failure during a "Controlled
Free Fall". Having read a few posts in the past about Dan Osman and his
jumps before, I have always wondered how it is done, what precautions are
taken, equipment used, etc.

He had a tyrolean rope between Leaning tower and fifi buttress. In the
middle of this was tied the 900' jump rope and they would tie into the end
of it and jump off the top of the tower. it was more like base jumping as
they would be able to track out in the 8 to 9 second fall. once they have
stopped bouncing they deploy a 4mm rappel line and rap off to the ground.
There was a small retrieval cord attached to the jump rope that would allow
them to pull the rope back up to the top of the tower.

it was a very complex system where the tyrolean was attached at the ends. it
had pulleys and screamers as well as more screamers where the jump rope was
attached to the tyrolean. when they had 2 sceamers nothing was blowing but
with one at each end they were blowing a little bit. they were 900lb
screamers.
this was jump 15 or 16 and the rope was wet and broke about 130' from the
end. I cant understand how it broke. perhaps parkservice had sabotaged it as
they were up there when dano was in jail.
