i have heard via rumour that an on-line marine chandlery or marine supply
exists on compuserve, and am wondering if anyone has used it, or would use it.

As a section leader of the CompuServe Sailing Forum, I can tell you
that there's no chandlery doing business there, though there are a
number of commercial establishments, including West Marine, answering
questions. Commercial advertising and deal-making must go via
private MAIL.
