Second Surfer Suffers Shark Bite
www.wwaytv3.com
For the second time in two days, area waters prove to be dangerous. A
Wilmington teenager is recovering after being bitten by what he says
was a shark. Wrightsville Beach police say the incident happened while
16-year-old Patrick Bruff was sitting on his surfboard almost 150
yards north of the Oceanic Pier and about 25 yards out in the ocean.
Patrick says he has never seen sharks in the area before. When he felt
a tug and pain in his right foot, he looked down and saw that a grey
shark had his foot in its mouth. The shark bit one and one-half inches
deep into Patrick's foot. He needs reconstructive surgery on a tendon
and repair to a ligament. The shark also severed a main artery to
Patrick's foot. An orthepedic surgeon says Patrick should fully
recover within two months. A Florida teenager is staying close to home
this morning after his run in with a shark sunday. 14-year-old Tim
Poynter was enjoying his first day of vacation in Holden Beach. Around
6pm Sunday, a shark rubbed up against him while he was paddling on top
of his surfboard. Tim says he saw the shark open his mouth, and bite
down on his foot. Fortunately, the bite didn't do any permanent
damage. He'll have to stay out of the ocean for 10 days while his
stiches are still in.

I think we can agree that the experts are frequently wrong. The Tiger shark
is one of the most aggressive sharks in the ocean, just ask the folks out
in Hawaii. They've had a rather nasty Tiger shark problem lately. Thanks
for the newsflash, hope the kid gets better soon...

So that means that, just like you shouldn't swim without chainmail in a
shark feeding frenzy, you shouldn't stand without a steel umbrella in
India.
Steve
Well then you don't know much about skateboard acients do you? "the bite
didn't do any permanent damage"
I noticed an artilcle in the paper the other day that indicated that
shark bites are up almost 100% this year over the same period last year
on the east coast. I seem to remember the numbers 10 vs 17.
If you are swimming act like you are healthy and make regular motions.
Research has indicated tht sharks like to bite folks who are moving
erraticly as if they were hurt (but they usualy spit people out because
they don't "like the taste" 8^)
