I've been with BOAT/US for many years for our smaller boats and have
always found them to offer decent rates and service. I've never had a
claim, though. Others who have report they were treated well.

Boat/US has very good rates, and excellent service as long as you have a
clean driving record. --

Bill,

I'm puzzled by your situation since I just
visited my State Farm agent to acquire insurance
for my new Regal cruiser. No mention of any
problems with insuring my boat and they quoted an
excellent rate. Granted, I've been a State Farm
cutomer for 25 years and have my home and two
cars covered. Sorry to hear of your problem. I
hope it doesn't spread, as you suggest, to all of
us customers, because State Farm will lose a lot
more than boat policies.

Bill....
If you're not an insurance expert, then you need to talk to one to
find out A) what State Farm is up to, and B) what you ought to do.

Suggest you call Al Golden , at International Marine Insurance
Services....
800-541-4647. he's in Chester, MD, and all he does is marine
Insurance. Or, email him at AlGo...@IMIScorp.net

FWIW the policy from State Farm Florida Insurance Company is the same as the
policy from State Farm. Same coverage, same endorsements and same
deductibles. At $47 under last years cost.

I too am a State Farm policy holder in Florida. I do not have boat
insurance with them "yet" but I do have homeowner and auto with them.
We received the letter a while back about State Farm will not insure
the home any more, but that State Farm of Florida will. The policy is
the "same" and the rates are the same. As per a good friend and State
Farm agent. The deal with this change up is called risk! What State
Farm is doing is lower the risk to State Farm Insurance Company. "If"
there should be another Andrew hurricane or another fire storm in
Florida, then when claims reach the roof of what State Farm of Florida
can handle, then instead of a person getting full payment, a person
might only get $0.50 per dollar coverage. Then when everyone sues, so
what. State Farm of Florida will not drag State Farm Insurance down
with them. If people will check around you will find most insurance
companies limit the number of folks they insure in Florida so that a
major claim will not bring down the whole company as it did to
Allstate with the Andrew hurricane. Again if people will check their
policies a little closer they might find that they aren't insured by
the big insurance company, but a smaller spin off of the big name as
with State Farm of Florida. What will happen in another major claim
like Andrew is that a lot of people are going to find out they really
don't have insurance when a hurricane comes to town and suing a
bankrupt company won't help. As long as there isn't a major disaster,
then the insurance will probably be as good as gold. Lower rates
right now is to keep people from jumping ship, but don't count on the
rates staying low as State Farm of Florida is it's own ship now.
Insurance in general in Florida is terrible, to many problems with
major disasters, and the insurance isn't what it use to be. Now it is
called share holder value instead of insurance as it is with most
business. Business doesn't count, share holder value and big pay
checks for the CEO do count.

A few days after I got my letter, I got my non-renewal notice/ new premium
notice for State Farm of Florida. I didn't initially realize that was what
they were doing to me. I'm going to go through the fine print and do a
little shopping before I decide to continue with them.
