CBS says it cannot prove the docs are real. Taht doesn't mean Bush
didn't get all the breaks, including some to which he was not entitled.

We today have a president of the United States who looks like he is the
son of Howdy Doody or Alfred E. Newman, who isn't smarter than either of
them, who is arrogant about his ignorance, who is reckless and
incompetent, and whose backers are turning the United States into a pariah.

Kerry commited a major f*#$up by wrapping his sorry arms around CBS' Dan
Rather's partisanship. This has to hurt... a lot. As for Rather.... it's
time for that sorry bastard to get out of Dodge and move back to Texas.
But, he'll have to watch his mouth in Texas where liars often suffer some
consequences. Maybe he should stay in NY or move to the left coast.

Actually, Rather says a bit more than that:

" Now, after extensive additional interviews, I no longer have the
confidence in these documents that would allow us to continue vouching for
them journalistically."

Fly on wall of WH staff room hears:

"Ok, George, all those questionable accusations about Kerry behaving cowardly
in Viet Nam seem to have done some damage. Now we need to worry about a
reprisal. What's the worst thing that anybody can say about your military
service?"

"That I went AWOL when it looked like the unit might be called up for combat
missions. I basically skipped two years of my obligation."

"Oh schidt! We can't let that stand. Who could corroborate that?"

"Most of my commanders are dead now, or senile, but there might be some
documents somewhere. I suppose we'd be hurt pretty badly if they showed
up....."

"Oh, crap. What to do, what to do, what to do........I've got it! We'll draft
some phony documents detailing those charges, and leak them to the press
through somebody who is closely enough associated with the TANG to be
credible!"

"What!? Are you nuts? Bring this down on our own campaign?"

"Exactly. The minute the story hits, we can put up a hue and cry that the
documents are phony. That will divert everybody's attention to the authenticity
of the documents, and away from the charges. When we eventually prove the
documents are phony, as we rather obviously will be able to do, the sheeple
will believe that if the documents are phony the charges must be phony too."

"Brilliant!"

"This will probably destroy the career of the reporter we leak this to........"

"I was just thinking the same thing. Dan Rather. Has to be, Dan Rather."

******

But then again, that's just the report from the fly on the White House wall.
Could have been written on forged flypaper. :-)

Too funny. Gould makes up funny conspiracy stories blaming Bush for leaking
false documents about himself to entrap Kerry/Rather while all Harry can
come up with is to say POTUS looks like Howdy Doody(?).

I don't mind name-calling from the vacuous, but since both Gould and I
are deeply engaged in making money via the system we have in this
country, what makes you think either of us are modern-day socialists?

I wouldn't presume to speak for Gould. Personally, I have nothing
against and indeed find much to like about many aspects of modern
European socialism, especially those aspects of it that help those with
problems (medical, layoffs, et cetera) from being placed on the discard
pile. If I wanted to be a socialist, I'd move to one of those more
civilized, more modern states, instead of living in the "shoot-em-up"
USA, eh?

What the hell do you actually know about modern socialism,
shit-for-brains? Or do you, as I suspect, just projectile vomit what
you've heard on reich-wing radio?

Glad you saw the humor in the story.

How does this entrap Kerry, except in the
sperm spewing fantasies of the radio right?

The point you missed is that the WH *does not dispute* the substance of the
story. The public is so distracted by the flap over the documents, nobody paid
any attention to whether the story could be real, or not.

If I owed you $5000, and a mysterious, forged IOU surfaced- would that prove I
didn't owe you $5000? By current standards it must- if the note was forged the
debt it represents must be bogus as well.

The public is also overlooking the fact that each time Bush says "All the
records have been released. This time, I really mean it. You've got them
all,"......somebody files a lawsuit for access to public documents and lo,
behold, more stuff comes forward.

Bush has proved he is unworthy of his office during the last four years. Nobody
needs to go back to when he was a coke-snorting college student to make him
look ridiculous. But since CBS chose to do so, I still suspect that where there
is smoke, there is some fire.

The producer of that 60 Mintues spot is a young woman from Seattle. Her best
friend still works at the local station, and the word of yesterday is that
"there is a lot more that is about to break" on the issue.

CBS now has an incentive to destroy Bush's military service credibility- if it
can do so. We'll see.

Gould,

You have no clue as to Bush's service.
Have you not seen the reports as to the requirements for guard
service?

The requirements for NG service were 50 points per year.

Bush had;

1st yr: 340
2nd yr: 253
3rd yr: 112
4th yr: 137
5th yr: 56
6th yr: 56

Result; HONORABLE DISCHARGE

Uh-oh...Jayne gave the keyboard back to Jim--wit?

A teling post...

1. No one was fighting for our "freedoms" in Vietnam. The last time our
"freedoms" were at stake in a shooting war was in World War II.

2. One does not have to believe in "God" or a "creator" to be a c.o.

An interesting question I hope someone puts to Bush at the debates:

Mr. President, please explain in detail how you reconcile your professed
Christianity with your waging war on Iraq.

I did exactly what my country asked me to do. I had a couple of easy outs,
including
a group of anti-war people in Vancouver BC offering me a job in a cabinet shop
and the right connections to become a "landed immigrant". It was allegiance to
my country that inspired me to stay here, work within the system, etc.

I'm sure it would have been much more herioc to go AWOL from the National

OJ is innocent.

Has to be. Just ask the right wingers.

Since part of the evidence against him was proven to be fabricated, (Mark
Fuhrman, glove, etc) that means the entire case was bogus from the get-go.

Since the presence of a forged document to the contrary proves that Bush *must*
have served honorably in the TANG, rather obviously OJ is innocent too.

Surely the same standard applies.
