Like most manufacturers in the last 10 years, yes. :-)

their quality and their ergonomics (I always wanted to use that word and

Yes. :-)
They went down in the with a number of Canadian companies in about 1990, then
had a fling with a French company for a while (Jenneau) and when these guys
found out how little money there was in the boat business, they were sold to a
Canadian group of investors again. They seem as stable as any right now. There
was probably another blip in there somewhere, but honestly it happened to so
many in such a short time it's hard to remember all the details.

I have an article somewhere , I'll see if I can find it and post a little
history on Doral, but if memory serves me correct they were taken over by
Cadorette and then Thundercraft, or both at the same time, can't recall. I
know when I bought my Citation it was after flying to Toronto to take in the
in water boat show in Sept. 88. In the 26' range the Citation was by far the
nicest boat there. The interior is just outstanding, the quality of material
is first rate. I was very disappointed to see the new style come out in
1990. The 30' Prestancia is simply IMO one of the nicest boats on the water.
As Dave pointed out, twin V/6 engines, an interior that was to die for and
alas a price that was out of my range.

Jim,
Rick
Okay, here what I know and have heard about Doral. I first fell in love with
their boats in 1990. The 23 they had back then was the most well thought out
boat I had ever seen! You could tell the people that designed it actually
liked boats and boating. Of course at that time I could not afford it. In
95 Doral changed owners. I have heard that the government of Quebec is
somehow involved, probably through tax credits, etc. I don't know whether
that is true or not I overheard it at the N.Y. show. My wife and I spent 3
years looking for the next boat. We looked at new and used. We wanted to go
up to 28-30ft. We looked at them all and tore them all apart. We also
considered what we could afford in all this. Our 99 Doral 300sc is due to be
delivered April 22nd. We both fell in love with the room and accesability of
the boat. Every time I looked for the means to get at something that needed
servicing it was easy to find and get at. Everytime she looked at where
something could be stowed a spot was found. To me it seems that they are
still being designed and built people who enjoy boating themselves. The
construction IMHO is on a par with other major builders, such as Sea-Ray,
Chapperal, Rinker, etc. I have been in contact via e-mail with a few Doral
owners. None has had a harsh word to say about their boat. The complaints
they have had are all about small items such as hinges and handles breaking
after 3+ years. Hulls and engines are holding up well. From what has been
said to me all of these things have been fixed under the warranty. My
experiance with the dealer and the factory has been very good. I wanted a
fresh water flushing head. Since I boat in salt water that requires an extra
fresh water tank for flushing water. The factory had no problem adding that
at a very reasonable cost. They told me they could not install the vacuflush
in the 300 and explained why. All though they could install it, it would be
out of the parameters set by the head manufacturer and they could not
garauntee it working well over a long period of time. I appreciatted their
honesty. How many dealers or factorys would have just put it in and left the
owner to figure out why it stopped working 3 years later? All and all I
would say the Dorals are a good product at a fair price. And yes that 36 is a
gorgeous boat. Maybe in another 10 years. <G>

BTW: I did take note of a brand new Doral last year mainly because she listed
severely while at dock. You may want to do the water test prior to completing your
new purchase.
Sounds like someone installed something heavy and didn't balance the boat
when they did it.

Hi Three, I did not say that the vacuflush failed. What I did say is that
the possibility would exist of it failing since the installation would be out
of spec. As to the list, was it to Stbd or port? If to stbd the owner has
AC installed and no genset to counter it. The AC is installed to stbd and
the genset to port. I am getting niether ac or genset. If the list was
particularly bad it could be something else. The worst i have seen in a 1 or
2 degree list due to equipment or loading. I have all ready water tested a
demo on a nasty day and found the boat to be well mannered in a 3-4ft chop.
I will be water testing mine before any paper are signed. By the way if I
saw a boat in my marina listing badly I would notify the owner or the marina
operator if the owner wasn't around as the boat might have developed a
problem and be on the verge of sinking.
