I received some boat show tickets from my friendly neighborhood marine
finance guy which are good at a variety of boat shows around the
country. My business travels will take me near New York city during
the first couple weeks of January and I thought - hey - rather than
waste these tickets close to home at the Miami Boat Show, maybe I
should check out the show in the big apple. Has anyone been to the
NYC Boat Show - is it worth a trip into the city?

An aside -- I must admit - I harbor a secret desire to go to a boat
show in the dead of winter up north and be surrounded by people who
are anxiously awaiting the start of the boating season in several
months knowing that in a day or so I will fly home and actually go
boating. It's the only way I can console myself to having limited
choices in restaurants and at most one Broadway show in town at a
time.

Thanks -

TK

We went to the show by boat the past two years. Not sure what you're talking
about. 39" linesider this morning, despite rain and brisk winds (gotta love
a wheelhouse). Boating is a year 'round sport in New York these days.

39"? Now?
Great fish story.

Moriches right along west cut, alongside Cornicelli. BTW, Hahn had a big
fish just three, maybe 4, days back out front.

Any idea of the date for the next Chicago Boat Show?

Thanks,

Let's here it for global warming... So why all the New Yorkers in
Florida this time of year? Must be the dog tracks... :)

39 is just hard to find this late. Most of us have given up the goat. Freeze
all day for short. You get it at the bottom half of the ebb or at slack?

Jai Alai??
What do you mean by Florida? Are you referring to S. New York?

The New York Boat Show is terrible compared to the Miami Show. The first
time I flew up from Miami and attended the NY Boat show it was snowing
outside the convention center, and that part was pretty exciting. Other
than that the show was a bore. If you want to go to a nice show in the
greater NY area go in the fall to the Norwalk, CT. boat show. This show is
much larger than the NY show and is a class act.

But it's a good time.
I'll head up again this year, just for 3 days, to hang around with some NYC
friends and enjoy the city.
Miami is THE show, and a lot of fun in its own right. Thank god they don't
suck up 2 weekends like all these other asinine shows. Waste of time and
resources.

Is everyone aware that IMTEC appears to be a memory. I've heard that NMMA
board has voted and it has been decided that the show will not continue.
I think htat's good and bad.
The show, for all its good intention, had lost it's viability as a forum for
industry business to be conducted, meetings, etc. All of that now happens
sufficiently at the plethora of boatshows that are now put on year round.
Bad, in that IMTEC still served as the one barometer of
"industry-togetherness", an ideal which will be much more important as NMMA
leads the fight to bring more people back to the recreational boating fold.

Should be an interesting year.

TK, I'll be at the Marriott Marquis having one helluva good time. Maybe the
show is far from spectacular (it is), but see the stuff, then walk out of the
Javitz Center and hit the town.

I normally stay at the same place (on Lexington if memory serves me
right?) although on this trip I'll be out in Jersey. There are
probably nicer hotels in the city, but I'm into Marriott for "rewards"
points big time....

Maybe this year I'll try to hit the New York and the Miami shows -
beats hanging out in Jersey.... (no offense to anyone from Jersey -
just not a lot to do there when you're visiting from out of town in
the winter).

Marquis is on Broadway and 45th. Looks out on Times Square.

I'm understanding of your Jersey comment too. My lady friend moved from
Charleston, SC to Morristown, NJ for a 3 month nursing stint. This is her last
week. 3 months of flying up to Newark and heading straight for the city are
over. No offense to the Newark area--just not a whole lot to do knowing NYC is
a short shot away.
Morristown is very nice, though.
