I have a 1968 viking, sportfisher model. Inside is a vinyl
headliner that has years of dirt and nicotine build up. I have used
ammonia, simple green and a host of other products. It is cleaner
than before but definately needs to be a little whiter. Any
suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Tri sodium phosphate. Follow label directions carefully. Good luck.

I recently posted comments about cleaning vinyl. I found a product
called Aqua EZ. I purchased this at my local Lowes home improvement
center. This is a pool and hot tub cartridge filter cleaner. I bought
this stuff to clean my hot tub filter. When I had it at the house and
read the instructions and label, it said this was a great cleaner for
plastic outdoor furniture, vinyl, rubber, car tires and wheels, painted
surfaces, and other Marine applications.

I srayed this on my vinyl boat seats full strength and let it stand for
5 full minutes. The results were amazing! The color of the seats came
out like new. The white was absolutely clean. No dirt lines in the
groves in the vinyl and stains that had been there for years were
gone. After cleaning I treated them with armour all. Now they look
like the day they were installed. I also used this to clean the paint
on the sides of the boat and it removed oxidation that "scratch out",
"color back" and other products would not budge. And yes it does clean
hot tub filters.

Keep in mind this is "not" an acid based filter cleaner as many filter
cleaners are. Do not confuse this with an acid based filter cleaner!
This is an oily based cleaner that when sitting will sepatate into an
oil base and a milk texture igrediant. When shaken in it have the
milk texture throughout. If you try this, do a small test area first.
However, I have not found a surface it will not clean. (I haven't
tried it in the clothes washer yet).

Vinyl (an oil by product) especially older vinyl will dry out and yellow and
become brittle. I would simply replace it. Harsh chemicals and detergents
will only make it more brittle.
