he boat paid $350 for a check-the-box style survey that was 2 pages long and disavowed any specific knowledge of the boat in question.(!) I have had the boat 4 seasons and have found no problems that were not uncovered in the more complete survey.
Regards,
Tim
P.S. Sorry, but my good surveyer is located in New England.
I too am looking for a boat at this moment. The best advice I have been given is
call the broker for the insurance company who will carry your boat and ask them
for a recomendation from their list of approved surveyors. You'll need such
a survey to get insurance anyway why pay for it twice.

First try your local yellow pages -- still a better information source
than the Internet -- under (strangely enough) SURVEYORS- MARINE. An 800
number for an all-east-coast outfit: Clyde Eaton and Associates, at (800)
347-7331). They can probably help with a name.
Agree with earlier followup -- an insurace survey just tells you the boat
exists. A Value and Condition survey implies liability on the part of
the surveyor.

I recommend Doug Shotton. He did an excellent and thorough job for me.
I assume he's listed in the phone book, probably Berkeley.
