Wing keel vs Fin keel

One factor I found out about with a wing keel is that if you run aground
in sand, it can be real tough to get off. The usual methods such as
kedging and winching, or even pulling halyards off to the side with a
dinghy dont work very well when the wings are embedded. Good luck!

Agreed. The usual methods do not work with wing keels. But
because the keel configuration is different, the methods must also
differ. Trying to heel the boat is not a good strategy with the wing
keel; the draft may be more when heeled. A better strategy is to
adjust weight fore and aft and try to kedge off from the stern
(pulling in the direction opposite to the direction you were headed
when you ran aground).
